Acherene
Acherene is a vicekingdom of Faris, headed by Viceroy Laconis. It was originally part of the Rydia revolt, but became its own state shortly after the war had been won. Acherene has been at war with both Rydia and Faris on and off for all of its history, but their capitol city of Respar was taken during the most recent war. Faris instilled a Viceroy in charge of the region, and allowed Acherene to retain most of its autonomy, hoping that would keep them from rebelling.
This sort of peace has lasted for 11 years now.
The Acherine are a spartan civilization, and very focused on warfare. They have only known very short moments of peace in their civilizations history.
Respar is an old city, dominated by large stone temples and pillared stone houses. The streets are open and spacious and so, the city is sparse and the population is low.
It is a sacred to the Acherine, and is home to their courts of justice, their government and traditionally, their king (now viceroy).
Larion is the most populous city in Acherene, and where most of the industry and trade in the region is conducted. It s more modern in architecture, and more densely built.
Structure
The Viceroy answers to Queen Tamber for decisions effecting Faris, but otherwise, they are allowed to operate as they see fit. The Viceroy tends to follow the council of Nero in a lot of the more vital decisions the country faces. The council themselves instate dukes to govern each of the three regions of the Kings Plains to the west, the Black Valley to the east and the Iron Coast to the south. The Viceroy himself governs the mountains in the north along with Respar itself.
Demography and Population
Although Acherene is a mostly human city, the surrounding areas contain large communities of Iruxi in the east, and Kobolds in the north.
Territories
Acherine has traditionally been in control of the entire Acherine peninsula, granting it it's name.
It's current area of control stretches from the Black bog in the west to the ____ Cliffs in the west.
Military
The Acherine military has sustained war and stood blow for blow in a war at two fronts against much larger forces with far greater resources for millennia. Acherine soldiers are trained from childhood, feared by their enemies, but revered as heroes by the Acherine people.
Although specialization is very uncommon in the Acherine military, and most soldiers are as practiced with a bow as they are with the spear and shield, there exist three platoons of specialists, stories and myths of which have become known throughout Isera.
The Dragoons are a unit of strike troops characterized by their lances and heavy armor. In more recent years they have worn suits of dark armor with helmets stylized as the heads of dragons.
The Scourge are a unit of knights that ride into battle on daeodon. They are described as having no fear, charging into enemy ranks like barbarians and causing great chaos. Many claim they have very little control over their mounts.
The Acherene Sharpshooters are a band of archers that favor the use of the longbow, most often stationed atop hills and cliffs and protected by a retinue of heavy soldiers, these soldiers pick off the enemy archers and leaders with superior range and accuracy.
Agriculture & Industry
Neither a titan of industry or agriculture, Acherene imports a majority of their grain and steel. The area around Respar has good land for farming grain and more commonly, olives and grapes, which they export to Rydia in exchange for wheat and barley.
Steel has in recent years been largely imported from Faris, although traditionally the city of Larion has provided steel and weapons.
Trade & Transport
Most of the trade in Acherene is conducted by ship. Horses are somewhat uncommon in the peninsula and are often considered a sign of wealth.
