Scandal covers House Baenre like a funeral shroud, but Matron Zilvra Baenre sees this as an ascension to power as the name of her house and its deeds are never far from the lips of anyone in the Káto city of Eryndlyn. Her calculating ways brought her the power of a Matron Mother far before anyone on the Ruling Council had expected. The Matron Murders brought more bloodshed to Eryndlyn and the crowning of two new Matron Mothers. Zilvra took her place on the Ruling Council, albeit as a lower house. Her goals would drive her to the ranks of higher houses, and she would do anything to reach those heights. She took a brilliant weapons master as a husband, the numerous children they had together being talented in their expected ways. The daughters of Zilvra Baenre were to be priestesses of the Huntress, serving the house as casters. The few sons would become weapons masters like their father, trained to lay their lives down for the betterment of the house. But all was not how Matron Zilvra wished for it to be. Zilvra’s youngest daughter defied expectations, becoming a weapons master, a title granted to her by her father Nalfein. This left no room for the sons to take the title and bring glory to their house. Miz'ri left Káto, labeled a traitor, and Zilvra vowed her punishment. Even so, the conniving Matron Mother would allow nothing to get in her way of becoming the Matron Mother of the city.
