A dark mark crosses the name Xarann Baenre in the book Matron Zilvra keeps by her side. One would believe it was an honorable death in battle or a product of old age, but the number hastily scrawled under the name speaks volumes. Xarann was a mere child of 30 upon his death, an oddity even in Káto. His life was so short that even his younger sister believes his memory to be nothing more than a trick of her mind.
As the third son of Matron Zilvra of House Baenre, his life would not be one of luxury. Those that followed the culture of the Silver Elves knew that some families saw no need for more than two sons, as those two would go on to become either Wizards or the weapons master of a house. A Third Son was a wasted child in the minds of Matron Mothers looking to improve the standing of their house, a child that should have been a girl or have never been.
The older children of Matron Zilvra do not speak of their dead brother. The youngest child, Miz'ri, remembers her brother in flashes, of a kind soul that attempted to protect her from her mother in their early years. Xarann was a favorite of their father, well-learned in the art of sword fighting. Through these two, the memory of Xarann lives on, but the possibility of his death being at the hands of Matron Zilvra is something that haunts them.
