Alchemist in Training Senku Ishigami

Magic is for those who don't understand the science of the world. Science always has the answer, even when magic doesn't.
— Senku Ishigami
An orb of molten glass stretches and grows as a girl works the glass with tools. The tools seem too small for her hands, being those of Dwarves, and not the tools of Humans of her size. She blows the melting material into a small bottle, slowly cutting it from the pipe that had been used to heat it. With delicate hands sheathed in worn leather gloves, she moves the small bottle to a special furnace to cool, adding it to a line of intricately shaped potion vials. After returning her tools to their place on her bench, she wipes the blackened palms of her hands on her tunic before pulling the tie from her hair and leaving the shop with a small smile at what she had accomplished.   Senku Ishigami is an oddity in her family. In the small town of Tholladur in the land of Dwarves, she is the only Human. That fact startles the many visitors to the village, but she has never let their questioning eyes deter her. She walks the well-traveled paths of her town, towering over even the tallest of people. She makes her way towards a small house on the northern end of the town, where she hopes to find warm food to fill her stomach and a good book to fill her mind.   A small dwarven woman bustles around the kitchen, filling the table with porridge, breads and jams. There is never a shortage of warm, hearty food in the house of Vastraela Bronzemantle. A book awaits Senku as she finds her place at the table, a smile shared between mother and daughter. For the entirety of Senku's life, this has been the family she has known and loved. The Bronzemantle Clan of Tholladur were known for their kindness, and no one knew this better than Senku.   A child taken away from her family to be sold for profit, Senku could want for nothing in the home that had saved her. Her father Thurgrim Bronzemantle had rescued her from whatever life awaited her as a possible slave, which is how she had become the only Human in a town of Dwarves. She was gifted with a new life, one without restraints, so Senku allowed her curiosity to lead her, and it had lead her to a world of science and alchemy.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Senku is small, even for a Human, but her size makes her stand out in her village. She is very dexterous and graceful, although these qualities are often only seen during her crafting.

Body Features

Senku has fair skin and white hair that is a shade of green at the ends. Her red eyes are sometimes off-putting to others, especially when compared to the very simple, and sometimes boring, colors of her wardrobe.

Facial Features

Her facial features are delicate, almost elf-like in nature. She often allows her hair to frame her face, causing the only color to really be the color of her eyes.

Apparel & Accessories

She chooses to wear simple tunics in earthy colors. Her arms are often wrapped in white bandages from her wrists to nearly her elbows to protect her arms as she crafts.

Specialized Equipment

While she has little in the way of weapons, she carries a small leather satchel that contains a travel size alchemist's set, allowing her to ply her craft no matter where she goes. She also keeps a number of books in this bag as well.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

The very early days of Senku's life are shrouded in mystery, but her family have pieced it together as well as they could. It is unknown where she originally came from as she was kidnapped and taken to be sold in the markets of the Underdark. Whether by Goblin or Orcs is unknown, but her first few months of life were spent in the quarters of a trader or on the streets in the cities of the Great Tunnel. During his travels to the Underdark, Thurgrim found the child and returned with her to the surface, although the details of how he got her away from the trader become grander with every telling. It is something that Senku often does not bother with, preferring the solid facts to her father's boisterous tales.   Her life in Tholladur has been fairly simple since she was brought there. Her time was spent in her father's shop, learning the trade of metalsmithing from him and other members of the Bronzemantle Clan. She was allowed to make her own path and deviate from what the family had traditionally done. Through readings and learning from the other artisans in the village, she learned glassblowing and soon began dabbling in alchemy. Senku was a quick learner, picking up the necessary skills nearly instantly. By the age of 13, she was considered an accomplished glassblower as well as an up and coming alchemist.   As long as her actions did not tarnish the name of the Bronzemantle Clan, Senku was allowed to do and create what she wished. She became adept at making poisons and potions, using her glassblowing skills to create intricate bottles and vials that would house her concoctions. From the corner of her father's shop, she started a small potions business, selling what she made to better the town.   Due to her success in Tholladur, Senku chose to travel across Vóreios. While it was not a decision liked by her parents, they understood her need to learn. Just days before her fifteenth birthday, she set out on her own across the world.

Education

While Senku did not have a formal education, there were no shortage of books. Thurgrim often returned home with armfuls of books after his travels on behalf of the clan. Through the wide range of books and time spent learning from not only her family, but the other artisans, Senku had an expansive education, including learning the Common language of her ancestors as well as the simple language of the Underdark.

Morality & Philosophy

Senku's sense of morality is similar to that of the Dwarves as those ideals were instilled into her by her parents. Even so, she believes that science holds the answer to all questions, but the laws of science are often absolute. If there is a choice to rely on science and her knowledge over anything else, she will always choose science and the knowledge she has of it.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Motivated entirely by the pursuit of knowledge, Senku will do whatever it takes to continue learning. Everything she does is for the betterment of herself and to grow her knowledge. This is a motivation that often keeps her awake at night reading or working with her tools.

Hygiene

Senku is extremely clean, no matter what she is doing. She believes that uncleanliness also dirties the mind and muddles her ability to do science. If she's crafting or working with alchemy, she also tends to tie back her hair, keeping with her thoughts on cleanliness.

Social

Family Ties

Having been adopted by a Dwarf family, Senku has a large family. The Bronzemantle Clan is the current leader of the town of Tholladur so she has a great number of ties to the important people in the village. The majority of her family is much older than her, including the other children of Thurgrim and Vastraela. A few of her distant cousins are younger, but that means little to a dwarf.

Relationships

Taken in by the dwarves as a child, Senku is one that strayed from the magic so often found in Isekai for science, studying to become an alchemist at a young age. At age 15, she has become an adept alchemist and scientist.

Physical Description

Identifying Features
Senku has two odd jagged scars above her eyes that are very striking. These, along with the color of her eyes, are her most identifying features.
Physical Quirks
She is left-handed, often meaning that she has to make her own tools as the tools of others are uncomfortable in her hands. Because of her upbringing with Dwarves, it is often said that she walks like a man and has no grace outside of her crafting.
Special Abilities
Through the use of alchemy, Senku can create magical effects that look similar to spells. She will never admit this, often stopping to explain the science behind what she does if someone dare says that what she does is magic.

Mental Characteristics

Accomplishments & Achievements
Senku rarely measures accomplishments or achievements. Everything she does is in the pursuit of knowledge and celebrations of the things she knows or has accomplished only hinders her from moving forward as quickly as she would like to.
Failures & Embarrassments
In the same line as accomplishments, failures are seen as something not worth remembering or paying attention to. Failures are there as learning tools and stepping stones to greater success, nothing more.
Mental Trauma
While she does not remember her time kept by the traders in the Underdark, she does often have nightmares about being trapped in small, dark places. These were known to keep her awake constantly as a child.
Intellectual Characteristics
Senku is known for her keen mind and attention to detail. She rarely forgets any of the information she has learned and can often recall it in mere seconds. She is very logic and literal, as the science and alchemy she does requires her to be.

Personality Characteristics

Savvies & Ineptitudes
Senku is extremely adept at many things, to include logic puzzles, research, and anything to do with science. These are things that she constantly does, making them more habits than anything else. She is also fairly good and social situations, but often does not enjoy partaking in them.   She is horrible at using weapons, often noting that they are for those that can't think their way out of a situation. She has been taught to use some weapons for safety, but she is not very good at them.
Likes & Dislikes
Likes and dislikes are not necessarily something that she believes in or keeps track of. After spending time with her, others have noticed that she has an extreme dislike for the smell of any alcohol but she is near fanatical in her love of strawberries and fresh fruit, things often considered a delicacy in her home.
Virtues & Personality Perks
While being very logical and relying on science, Senku is often referred to as a kind soul as she uses her abilities with alchemy to aid those in need. Many times her potions are given away for free and created for those throughout the village that need them the most. She helps her family in any way necessary as well, often going far beyond what is necessary in search of the needed answer.
Vices & Personality Flaws
Senku is logical to a fault, often trying to argue the truth of science over magic. This gets her in trouble as it is often very obvious that she is one of the smartest in the room and it makes her very cocky and sure of herself.

Social

Social Aptitude
She is very adept in social situations, but she chooses not to partake in them. She is often better left to her science and her alchemy set than to be place in the middle of a conversation or a large social gathering. She is more comfortable around her family, but in large groups, she becomes somewhat anxious and falls back on her knowledge of science.
Mannerisms
Senku becomes very focused on her projects and the movements of habit of her crafts often permeate her daily life. She often moves her hand like she is stirring a potion when deep in thought and is known to mumble formulas and other scientific nonsense under her breath. She has a tendency to pace while she thinks as well.
Hobbies & Pets
Her hobbies revolve around her science and pursuing greater knowledge. This often comes in the form of constantly reading or creating experiments. In most cases, these experiments lead to knowledge that causes another experiment.   Her only pet is a giant rat named Einstein. Her father bought the pet for her as a gift and since then, the rat has become her partner in science, often watching Senku work for hours from the comfort of the girl’s shoulder.
Wealth
Senku is far from wealthy in terms of money. While there was not a great deal of money in her family growing up, she was always gifted with new books and scrolls so that she could continue to learn. Her wealth is more in terms of the knowledge she has, making her wealthy beyond measure in her opinion.

14 Spring's Evening, 300 E.A.

I wasn't surprised that Thurgrim was reluctant to let me leave. He always said that humans weren't the same as dwarves, that I wasn't yet old enough, but Tholladur didn't have anything left it could teach me. I needed to go and find more books to read, more experiences to sate this hunger for knowledge. I was glad for his sentiment as he hugged me goodbye, but the tears that fell into his beard shook me. It wasn't like him to show that level of emotion, not that he wasn't emotional, just it was odd for a dwarf, especially one that had already sent so many children out into the world. I took the gifts and food that him and Vastraela gave me with great thanks. I would have never gotten this far without them, their love was more than I could ever show gratitude for.   I had only wandered through the Great Furnaces before I possibly stumbled upon the best thing that could happen. A small inn held the call for crafters, and I had to take it. It was an opportunity to show off my skill and learn from others, plus the Underdark was a great mystery to me that needed to be solved. That's where my life started, and I was going to get the answers I wanted from that place. All I had to do was make it to the Little Greenwood and meet up with whoever was in charge.   The warlock that awaited me was eclectic, an interesting fellow, but not as interesting as the group that was running the endeavor. A paladin of the North, a dwarf of many talents, and a former dragonborn soldier of the Underdark. It seemed that the call was put out and only the craziest answered, but that meant the ability to learn from more people. First impressions were simple, telling me who would be worth learning from, but the other two could obviously still surprise me as we made our way to the Underdark.   I was a week early, meaning I had to wait until the rest of the paladin's friends arrived before we could be bothered to head to the Underdark. It was such a drag, but I guess at this point, I can't be too picky about this expedition. It seems like my alchemical talents were in great need, so this was more than worth it for me. I was ten billion percent sure that this was exactly what I needed.
