That intial parliament was one of the least diverse ever seen, with only 3 parties. The largest, and the one that took the prime minstierial role, was the Peoples Party of Mars. It has kepts its name all these years, and is still moderatly auth-left. They of course dominated the politics that cycle, but due to the relative youth of the nation, there was very little consistency in their approch. Overy the course of the term, 8 elected members of the party left the party, either to create new parties or to join another party. In all they had 735 votes, giving them just under 30 representatives. They gave their leftover to the Freedom party.
The runner up was the Freedom Party, which died off after a few decades after freedom was guarenteed. It was moderatly lib-center. They also had the president, by a bit of a fluke, and so the Department of Buisness and Industry was headed by this party. This was actually quite a lucky break, as it encouraged some buisnesses to come in, who were otherwise moderatly frightful of the Peoples Party. This party also had a lot of shifting around, with 6 of their members leaving. They had 459 votes, giving them 19 seats. They gained an additional 1 from all the smaller parties.
The final party, which only got 29 votes, was the Martian Conservative party. They put up a single member, who was quite outspoken in his time. He also took a spot on the Department of the Treasury board of directors, as he was an economist, and was a stabilizing and counter influence to the mostly left politics of the first government. Their unpolularity this cycle was mostly seen as being due to their pro-Earth stance, which was understandable quite disliked.
The Democratic party and the Liberal party were formed during the first government. Both siphoned off members from other parties, democratic from the Peoples party, and Liberal from Freedom. They were seen as more extreme parties, democratic being quite far left, while the Liberal party was a classical liberal party, emphasising less governmental control. These did affect the government a little, but they were still minority governments.
A couple other people just became unaffilitated. The parties were incredibly new, so were ill defined. Some people found they disagreed with the politics of their parties and just left them.
By the end of this first government, the People's party no longer had a majority, but due to the system being based on 2/3 majority, it didnt change much. They still had the plurality, and enough of a lead to prevent a 2/3 no confidance vote, so things just mostly continued, with the party sidling up to others when they needed the votes.
