The Roving Settlement

Based around a large central rover train, but comprising anywhere between 80 and 300 rovers, this settlement enjoys its untethered nature and roams the surface of mars, rarely stopping in the same place for more than a single night. Even if the main rover needs servicing, the settlement will move on. On average it moves between 30-40 km per day. It completes a total circumnavigation every year and a half or so, but it has been known to take longer, or even shorter sometimes. Once it completed one in only a year, but that was an anomaly.
The primary rover, called The Big Rover, is an oversized model rover train that is made of components 40 m in width and 80 in length, with a standard compliment of 8 units, is the seat of governance, provider of most services, and just generally the hub of the settlement. It can only travel at 20 km/h over unimproved terrain, but prefers to travel closer to 15. Its two drive units are nuclear powered, running off small nuclear reactors that are heavily shielded in the base of the units. These provide supplemental power when the rover is not moving, enough to easily allow most of the other rovers to turn off their generators.
