Humanoid Remote

These mechanical humanoids are not seperatly conscious, simply being extensions of an AI. While they are reasonably common, they are also quite expensive and not terribly practical, and so are typically only used when blending in with humans is seen as the correct move. Most ships will have a few on board, both to interface with the crew and to act as a representative of the ship as a whole off the ship, but as they can only be well commanded within a dozen light milliseconds their use is limited.
Most AI will have their humanoid remotes be vaugely androgenous, but they may feel some drive to bias them one way or the other. Remotes are built to order, and well built ones like those used by military ships can be reconfigured externally on the fly. Military ones also tend to have built in weapons.
Almost all humanoid remotes are not visibly inhuman, at least not when piloted by a compentent AI (typically at least 1.5 is needed for fluid operation while multitasking). However, anyone with most kinds of sensors will be able to discover all but the best concealed remotes, and those cannot hide from the kind of scan a ship carrying one could perform.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

Varies greatly based on quality. The lowest quality tend to just be actuators and hydraulics, with simple sensor skin on the outside. High level infiltration remotes may be mostly organic, even needing to consume organics. Those used by ships as bodyguards could be compared to exosuits.
