Ió-Hum
Guardians of Human Civilization
The sensible people of Ió-Hum have built for themselves a moderately wealthy society. Friendly to outsiders, this land is most preferred by Galvanian sea captains as a docking stop when traveling farther north. They treat Galvanians as equals (which can’t be said of the elves), and they’re viewed as steadfast and honest. Though they fear no invasion from the south or east, their northern border is still wild and dangerous. Without a natural barrier, such as the Emilom River which runs the northern border of Koland and Dumford, Ió-Hum is forced to take a more aggressive stance in protecting their lands. This continual experience for the Io-Hum has proved beneficial in providing real experience for it’s military. 55 years ago, when an over aggressive king from the Island of Trelk took their friendliness for weakness and tried to capture the port city of Uren-Por, Ió-Hum reacted to the surprise attack with swift action and a decisive conclusion. Not only was the King's army destroyed, his entire fleet of ships were captured save one that Ió-Hum sent back with a crew of 8 and the 2,000 spears of the would-be conqueror’s army.
Structure
Each city/town has a Chieftain who is elected for as long as they are able to bare arms. When the King of the country dies, the Chieftains elect a new monarch from among themselves.
Public Agenda
The central government of Io-Hum is charged with the protection of the state. Internally the political strength of the Chieftains and the threat of outside dangers have kept the country focused on a strong defensive and unified standing.
