The Sforza family is in a unique position. Not only is the family part of the aristocracy, but they also control one of the most powerful sailing guilds, the Guided Dolphins. The Dolphins, as the guild members are often called, are one of only two guilds who hold the secrets to traveling across the southern seas, which guarantees immense wealth. Captain Francesco is a distant cousin of the Queen, but the Queen has not forgiven him for the loss of her father who was a passenger on one of his ships when he and his sons were lost. If the Sforza family did not possess as much power as they do, the queen likely would have stripped the Captain of his title.
