Western Foothills
Endings were always bittersweet, both beautiful and a little cold; and so were the Western Foothills at the very edge of the republic, on the boundary between the lands of iron and the lands of ash.
Geography
The valleys between the hills are both grassy and forested, but the hills themselves are quite high, and tend to be craggy. The mountains loom in the distance, high and forbidding, the stony slopes stretching far above where trees can grow.
Fauna & Flora
Goats are prolific, as are deer and wolves. There are also mountain lions and bears in smaller numbers. The slopes that are not stony are covered in thick grass that will head up into coarse stalks late in the year. There is goldenrod as well, and large amounts of wild morning glories. Wild flowers grow among the grass. In the valleys there are often trees, a healthy mix of pines and deciduous trees. Some of the valleys are boggy, and sedge grows in them, as well as pond lilies. There are fish in the rivers; mostly trout and perch.
