Khmarna Metascience Center

Overview

The Khmarna Metascience Center was established in June 2668 with the blessing of each of the major political groups on the unofficial capital of the Iron Stars region, Galatea.   The science center is a modern looking building made of pearlescent white metal, framed in dark colored steel, and with thick reflective windows set high on the snowy mountain slopes of Arctopia. It consists of four floors, and a ritual casting annex in the form of a 30 meter wide semi-transparent reinforced dome on the peak of the mountain the Metascience Center is built into. The opacity of these panels can be set to clear or darken depending on the requirements of the work being done within.   Khmarna Metascience Center has a paved road with a heated surface leading down to a valley, where a large alpine lake and manicured forest of thick pines has been planted. Birds, snowy hare, and other small creatures are known to frequent these woods and are common sightings at the lake in the early morning or late at night.   The building consists of four floors, each consistently cleaned by a highly advanced roachpopper system. Special diffusers in each office can be hand tailored to gently filter any scent desired into the air, while keeping it from bleed-over into the common areas.

Electrokinesis Floor

The ground floor of the Khmarna Metascience Center consists of its powerful reactor, advanced workshops, and endless power coils set into the industrial spaces. More machine shop than place of pure academic pursuit, the electric elementalists and Electrokinesis practitioners of the Academy work here, endlessly innovating and creating what will one day be the next of a new generation of psitech.   Any Electrokinesis user, Elementalist Mage, and their companions may use the electro-kinetically powered workshop here to complete modifications to their personal gear in half the time it would normally take to complete. The required fix level and maintenance score cost does not change, but craftsman may substitute ‘fix’ for Electrokinesis skill level or Cast Magic skill level.

Nullifier Chambers

The nullifier chambers are the first floor, kept dim and mostly silent through an advanced honeycomb like array of directional noise bafflers and acoustic paneling to not disturb the inhabitants. Expert system robots fill out a low lit training hall at the right side of the floor, trained to be targets for assassination, simulate roving guard patrols, and undertake other functions simulating common obstacles for would-be scouts and assassins. The room can also simulate different environments such as forest, the inside of a starship, or even a small rooftop urbanscape.   These chambers also contain a large stockpile of nulmetalum stored in a secure vault and guarded by several automaton protectors.   Nullifiers visiting Khmarna Metascience Center may forge the stored Nulmetalum into items, special ammunition, or other pieces of gear useful to remaining hidden from, and handling hostile psychics or magic users. The specifics of what can be created are determined on a case-by-case basis but are usually geared to the specifics of completing a certain mission.

Offices

A personal office for every Psychic Academy member has been set aside on the second floor of the facility. The rooms are incredibly tailored to each occupant and allow any conceivable number of configurations. Advanced bio-keyed security systems ensure any personal projects kept within are as secure as possible. The floor is rounded out by a trio of conference rooms, and a single large holo theatre for more detailed depictions of esoteric topics.

Mage-Assay Facilities

The top floor of the Khmarna Metascience Center is devoted to the blossoming study of the expression of MES known as 'Magic', 'weaving' or any other of its thousands of colloquial names. The finest assay facilities, magical research labs, and scrying facilities. A master archive of archeotech blueprints, and an engram library also exist here, allowing mages to see the work of consenting peers for reproduction.   These advanced research areas are capped off by the aforementioned mountaintop ritual chamber. The floor can be toggled to be paved, stamped earth, sand, or rock depending on the needs and relaxation preferences of the users.   Chalks, paints, incense, and chemicals to clean up afterwards are kept stocked here. Surround speakers flawlessly project calming sounds, ritual instructions, or status reports to casters.   Rituals cast here only require the Hierophant to be Level 3 in their respective psychic discipline. The total skill level needed to cast these rituals is also lowered due to the specially prepared space, though the users still do need to spend the time preparing it. The total combined skill needed is reduced from 12-16 to 10-14.   Archeotech blueprints held by one consenting mage are considered known by all. There is also a 1 in 6 chance that a component will not be used when creating archeotech here.

The Grove

A circle of psionically charged stones sits at the heart of the large forest the Khmarna Metascience Center peers out over. The heart of the woods is generally silent, save for the chirps of birds and the wind whistling through the thick pines. At the center of this miniature Stonehenge like circle, a large tome lists every species ever catalogued in the Iron Stars region. The book is enclosed in a self sustaining pressure field, and anchored in place to survive even blizzard conditions. Food for all manner of creatures is routinely seeded throughout the forest on bushes, trees, and under shallow ground for rutting beasts.   Any Gaiapsions may keep creatures they capture here and their needs will be infinitely met. Carnivorous creatures are pacified while here and will not attack sentients, or creatures bonded or once bonded to another Gaiapsion. The large tome at the forest center allows knowledge of any creature ever seen in the Iron Stars region for use as a companion. Creatures are automatically added to the book once seen for the first time.
