Beast Master is a
Ranger subclass from the PHB. It functions as printed, except as noted below.
Primal Companion
This errata from TCoE is MANDATORY and REPLACES Ranger's Companion. Like the other TCoE errata to the Ranger, it is better than the original PHB option in almost every way.
You can describe the creature however you like that makes sense with the form and abilities it is given. Remember that beasts in this setting, like in the prior campaign in this setting and in the show ATLA, are hybrids of Earth animals rather than straight up single species Earth animals.
The land and sea guardians may be Large if you choose. This gives +2 Str but -2 Dex, multiplies weight by 8, increases space to 2x2, does not increase reach, does increase weight capacity, and allows a Medium rider. You cannot have a rideable air guardian.
