Session 4: the River Report

General Summary

The first burning timbers crashed into the rocky shore of the small island not long after the fire had been set. The small hut did not survive long after that. Tak looked upon the destruction of the place he had called home for the past few years with a practiced indifference. His true emotions, anger, dissatisfaction and resentment were pushed down deep. For a moment he had doubted the need to abandon his island home. Almost he had convinced himself that his conversation with San had been enough to keep the Intai agent from notifying his superiors of this location.   Torbin had been right though, the risk was too great. All they had been building these past years could have been for nothing if he was apprehended now. Torbin had already provided him with a location to build a new house. He needed a secluded and peaceful place from which to continue his work. More would have to be brought into the fold.   Tak thought back on the conversation he had with San. He wanted to believe the Intai hunter could be turned, could be brough to see the need to bring a stronger order to the Silent Lands. Torbin didn’t believe he could.   What worried Tak the most was the influence San and his companions had on his apprentice. The captain had been a faithful servant ever since his Intai brainwashing had been broken. Still, he had brought a dangerous group of adversaries to his home, out of his own free will. Maybe Intai’s work ran deeper than Tak had ever considered.   “Ready to go?”   Tak had been too deep in thought to hear Torbin approach. The fiendish Duergar had arrived on the rocky shores of Tak’s island an hour ago. He had teleported in as soon as Tak had sent a message, reporting on the evening’s events.
“I am. You know, I was happy here. Some of my greatest breakthroughs happened here. I succeeded in reaching the first level of the Pagoda, I broke through Intai’s brainwashing and I trained my first apprentice. I will miss this place.”   Torbin was obviously annoyed at Tak’s reflections, rolling his red-rimmed eyes, but said nothing. Tak knew him all too well. All the members of their group had spent enough time together this past decade to know when to speak and when to remain silent. Tak gave Torbin a little nod of appreciation before walking over to the waiting Duergar.
“Alright. Nothing to be done about it now. Let’s go.”   Torbin returned the nod and placed his left hand on Tak’s shoulder.
“You will like the new place just as well. Malagan is already waiting for us there. His followers will have the new cabin built in no time.”   “Is Lantana with him?”   “No. I sent her on another errand, so maybe don’t piss off Malagan any more than he probably already is.”   Tak enjoyed the thought of the lich’s seething but impotent anger. As Torbin began the chant to gather the arcane energies that would transport them to his new home, Tak reminded himself that, as the Navigator, such emotion should be beneath him.
