orphaned member of a side-branch of the powerful noble family, Nar, in Amon. Little bit of an outsider as he chose to study soulbinding magic instead of demonbinding.
Scholar with interest in Tenebrous (demonlord). Little to no information could be found in Amon, so made secret contacts with a scholar from Sa Owu.
discovered, to his horror, that he was transforming into a half-dragon. Chose to hide it and flee Amon.
fled to Den to meet with his Sa Owu contact. Was captured and enslaved by the Tusktrade caravan.

Premise: A group of heroes are transported to strange fantastical place by a cursed ring and must overcome many trials to return home. They all themselves with whimsical characters (like a talking bear), fight nightmarish creatures, and bargain with ancient beings.

He paused and grew contemplative. 'Perhaps there is something you can do for me' he intoned after a moment. 'In your world, there is a statue that I want you to find...'..."
A Letter Home
Dear Uncle,
I hope this letter finds you and Aunt Cyvani well. I know it was rude of me to depart from Amon without first consulting you and I wish to take this opportunity to apologize. Regrettably, I will be unable to do so in person anytime soon however, as speaking of opportunities, one presented itself for me to finally begin the field research that I have been speaking of for several months now. I know this particular pursuit of mine does not seem particularly valuable to nether you, nor the rest of the Nar family, but I have faith that this calling I feel to uncover the secrets of world will no doubt be advantageous to us in the long run. Why, I have already uncovered a surprising amount of lore about the Silent Lands from just my travels through the jungle alone! Did you know that there is a vast network of connected underground tunnels far beneath the Silent Lands? These tunnels are apparently large enough to host several civilizations of varying age. It was escaped slaves from one such civilization that informed me of its existence. I will mostly certainly direct my attention to this "Deep Dark", as the natives call it, once I've discovered what I can about the Tenebrous, although the two may end up going hand in hand. Please excuse the rambling, you know how excitable I get when something new opens up to me.
Anyway, I am writing to you from Den (a very eclectic place, I recommend the Elysium inn, should any other Nar find themselves traveling), where me and my new assistants have agreed to meet up before continuing our travels together. I have already managed to procure several new tomes here that discuss the Tenebrous as well as a list of other scholars I can consult during my travels. It has been a very efficient week. That being said, I have decided to first travel to the Great Works (GW), to collect some specialized measurement equipment, before continuing to the city of Ash to begin our research formally. Due to the city's proximity to the desert, I suspect it will make an excellent staging ground for eventual forays into the desert itself. I will be sure to keep you and the rest of the family appraised of any new revelations that I uncover. There is no need to write back, at least not now, as I plan to leave Den tonight and I do not know how long the travel to the GW will be, nor do I know how long I will be there there either.

P.S: Can you have one of the book quasits retrieve what books we have in the family library on the Demonlord Lolth? The escaped slaves I mentioned might have a connection to her, and so I would like to look into it when I return. Tell the quasit to leave what they can find in my study. My thanks.

ADDENDUM to "ancient civilizations" outline:
-Cloven was soldier for Azavox's army.
-Army came from underground to invade the Cyclopean Empire (CE).
-Army was defeated, leading to the creation of the "Eyes of Azavox".
-Thus Cloven's point of view on the CE is that of an invader/outsider.
-Might still have some value, but will need to find another source that has an insider point of view.
-Combine Cloven's and Aranea accounts to write a larger series on the "Deep Dark"?
