Lingorm

Terrifyingly fast and incredibly strong, the Lingorm is one of the few extraplanar beasts that has managed to carve out a niche for itself, and has thus far resisted all attempts to eradicate the creatures even in civilized lands. They were originally brought to this realm from another by a magical storm, and exist even in the oldest legends.

Basic Information

Anatomy

The Lingorm is has a large serpentine body with a powerful tail and a flat, spade-like head. Newborns are largely indistinguishable from large snakes at first glance, but as they grow, they grow 7 tentacles, usually 4 on the left and 3 on the right. Adult specimens range from 20-30 feet long from head to tail, and are usually around 2 feet in diameter. It has a digestive system similar to a snake's, its body being able to expand to fit the forms even an elk or moose with no perceptible impairment to its mobility. They are well adapted to darkness, their dark scales make them difficult to see - even their blood is black.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Lingorms are ambush predators, hiding their dark, flexible forms in caves or other dark areas, waiting for food to wander by. Though they will feed on anything, they have a preference for intelligent prey, seeming to savour the fear they feel just before they die. They have little fear of being hunted, for most of those who attempt to do so wind up becoming their next meal. They have multiple means of attack: they can use their tentacles or their powerful body to squeeze the life out of their prey, or batter them to death. They also breathe out clouds of caustic poison that kill any foolish enough to breathe it in; even the residue of the gas on the skin will burn the flesh.   While they are excellent climbers, their incredible bulk makes it difficult for them to move at speed - anyone lucky enough to survive the initial attack and get out of reach will likely be able to get away.
