There were a number of second class citizens who served at the pleasure of these Mages, and were the majority of the Vael's population, they often served as non-magical specialists and farmers. There was also a large population of constructs and magically bred creatures to serve as labor for the Vael.

Public Agenda

The Vael were wholly dedicated to the return of the age of High Magic, focusing on the shattered Ley Lines and the Mystrium it produced they sought to understand Dead Magic.

Assets

The Vael constructed vast libraries for their studies, as well as arboretum's and pens to contain a number of their wild expermients. The Vael for a time held the largest collection of Mystrium outside of Narsai before they mysteriously vanished.

History

The Vael were established in the Misty Isles, far away from the budding kingdoms following Long Night. here they operated as a rival for Highgate, breaking the cities monopoly on the Sea of Storm's trade. The Vael quickly expanded their boarders, largely uncontested on the islands, they used what magic was available to them to forge the foundations of a mighty kingdom to draw in citizens from across Irindor. While these citizens had little to no say in the dealings of the Vael, they were well provided for so long as they contributed to the Mages ultimate goal in some way or another. There were a number of small cities that dotted the Island Kingdom of Vael, and a single citadel with a smaller supporting network of buildings called the capital. this was where the Mages experimented on a number of subjects ranging from plant life, to enslaved wizards and even Outsiders. The Vael citizens were largely unaware of the depth of the Mages studies, while they were aware of their ultimate goal of returning the age of High Magic the methods were unknown to the populace. The kingdom would have a few brief yet intense conflicts with Highgate, Daitor, pirates all the way from Ravan, and even a Demonic Invasion. The Vael weathered all these events, using their magic to animate a number of constructs and dead warriors to bolster their forces in a way very similar to the Khoven from ages long past. Because of the mysterious nature of the Mages studies, it's unclear why or how the Vael came to ruin. One day the capital simply went silent, and one by one the neighboring cities followed. Eventually panic caused the remaining cities to be abandoned, and for many years sailors would refuse to return to the Misty Isles claiming the curse of the Vael Mages would claim them. Though the Vael might be gone, their many treasures, experiments, and studies would most likely remain even centuries later.
