Rune Weapons

Runic contraptions designed to ignite Mystrium powder

Manufacturing

Gnome and Goblin Artificers inscribe runes upon iron fittings and create cockwork mechanisms tied to the trigger. All must be insulated from the Mystrium core to prevent flash overs, or mistimed rune ignition. Even so mystrium and leas plumes have led to a rise of mutation and sickness.

Social Impact

The rise of Rune Weapons has made seafaring combat and city sieges more dangerous with commoners able to be trained in their simple use, only the matinence requires specialists. Their advanced range and energy makes them far more devestating than catapult, bows, and singular weapons from the previous age. While a highly dangerous and potent weapon, the side effe ts of prolonged use and manufacturing has kept these weapons limited to the storm seas. Many sailors will often wear some coverings or masks to help prevent inhaling the unstable smoke from these weapons. Dwarven forces have gone so far as to create advanced masks attatched to some form of filtration, though they remain bulky and cumbersom as well as expensive.

Parent Technologies
Access & Availability
Rune Weapons are expensive creations, careful timing between mechanisms must be precise to ensure contact between plates is made in the correct orientation. Because of this they are often dangerous and not as reliable as traditional bows and crossbows making them more of a rarity.
Complexity
Rune Weapons all function the same, two plates or pins strike and complete a rune for a brief moment. This rune reacts with the Mystrium Core and creates the desired effect, most often igniting ground Mystrium powder to launch a projectile.
