Magophagus (Mage-O-phage-us)

The Magophagus dieses is a deadly virus that only effects magic users. The Magophagus infects a mage's body through aerosol and skin to skin contact. Once infected the virus begins to work on spreading throughout the infected's respiratory, then cardiovascular, and finally nervous system. In Stage I the infected begins to show signs through a chronic cough, low energy, and shortness of breath this is when the dieses is most infectious to others. Typically the virus transitions into Stage II after around 1-2 weeks of Stage I depending on how active the infected is. In Stage II the virus has begun to infect the cardiovascular system of the infected. The primary symptoms of Stage II are fever and darkening of veins rarer symptoms include blood clotting and lethargy. This point is the highest percentage chance of full recovery if given proper medicine and treatment. If untreated or improperly treated within the first week the virus will move into the nervous system and into Stage III. In Stage III the virus begins consuming the body and nervous system causing seizures and magical surges throughout the body. This is the most dangerous stage of the virus for not only the infected but also nearby people. Currently Stage III is incurable and will always result in the death of the infected. Often times because of the danger to the public a mage with Stage III Magophagus is often put down as soon as possible by medical professionals or in more extreme cases government police or soldiers. 
While the Magophagus is relatively rare in the modern era it is still common enough that all medical professionals are trained in some capacity to diagnose and treat an individual. The height of the virus was at the end of the Great Shattering when the fledgling nations with their mages returning from all corners of the world from the wars brought back the infections to their homelands. Wholly unprepared many people died to the virus or the magical flares of the infected.
Due to this fear of infection and magic users many nations began magical purges cleansing the land of all magical users with the primary leaders in this being Karkos, Gearcleave, and Delmerev. While other nations learned to treat the virus without purging magic users the damage had been done, depleting many nations of their magical reserves.
