Neris Les
In the year 663 after the formation, Neris Les was reborn in the city of Hell's Gates, taking possession of the half-orc Fiona Sable and intwining with her form. Once Neris expelled the spirit of Sable, she established herself as the god-queen of Hell's Gates. She has promised protection for her sisters and brothers, and an eventual assault to retake Heaven once and for all.
Summary
Neris Les was the daughter of one of the great demon generals and an angel. She grew up in constant battle with her virtuous nature and the infernal blood running through her veins. But her father, the archangel, was thrown out of heaven for his transgression. When he fell, so too did Neris Les. Neris Les lead an assault against heaven, and overtook one small portion with her army, but was slain by her father's people for her trespass into celestial grounds. Neris' army was slaughtered.
Historical Basis
There was a demon general named Neris Les, and she was well renowned for a failed assault against heaven. Many people surmised that her parentage was in question even during her lifetime, but no demon/angel hybrids have ever been documented and scholars think that the base nature of the creatures is too alien for any mixed bloodline to ever form.
Spread
Mostly a story told amongst the more superstitious denizens of Hell's Gates or the Nine Hells, a scholar or a particularly odd family might have heard the tale.
Variations & Mutation
Some versions say Neris Les' mother gathered up Neris' essence after her defeat and stowed it away. The hope is that one day the essence could take hold inside another and Neris Les could lead her people into heaven once and for all.
Cultural Reception
Most people who have heard the story know the historical basis for the myth. Only a few buy into the more mythical parts of Neris' story, and even fewer are part of the Order of the Nephelum; a self-proclaimed order dedicated to retrieving Neris Les' essence and transferring it to a worthy host.
Neris admits that her father was also thrown out of heaven at the time she was, both stripped of their wings. Neris' mother bestowed her new, fiendish wings, but Neris' father could not live with the shame. He drowned himself in the Well of Souls, located in Hell's Gates.
