Nefisian Blizzard

Teshale tightened the strap of his rucksack and pulled his cloak around him tighter. The winds were picking up making the already freezing air slice into him like icy daggers and snow blow into his face. He cursed himself for not staying at home as his wife had told him to. The temperature had been steadily dropping over the past few days but, he had been determined to make it to Beskerm before the week was out. Now, he was in danger of being caught in the middle of the forest by the snowstorm and he was nowhere near either Beskerm or his home nor had he spotted any caves that would make a good shelter. He sent a prayer to the Great Hunter and continued on the trail as the snowfall deepened.

During a majority of the year, the kingdom of Nefis' location on the mountains of the Slumbering Highlands provide it with a natural defense against invaders. During winter, however, its position so close to the polar waters of The Farthest Expanse combined with the rocky crags of the mountains is the perfect recipe for massive snowstorms to occur. Many other areas might experience blizzards but, none are quite as harrowing or intense as a Nefisian blizzard.

Manifestation

A Nefsian blizzard begins when cold winds from the polar regions hit the mountains of the Slumbering Highlands. The winds can either bring with them heavy snowfall or, pick up snow already laying on the ground. The winds must have sustained speed or frequent gusts at 35 mph or more and they must last for at least three hours reducing visibility to less than a quarter of a mile.

Localization

These blizzards are only found in the Slumbering Highlands and can be identified by the sheer intensity of the storm, with snowfall frequently reaching a height of six feet and wind shear capable of taking bark and branches off trees. The storms can last anywhere from a couple days to upwards of six weeks.

A snowstorm of six weeks, capable of taking branches and bark away? I suddenly feel so comfortable with the cold weather outside...
