The Kodazar Hegemony

The Kodazar Hegemony is one of the three great nations of Iorobush. It borders both The Sovereign State of Cradia and The Thardan Alpharchy, the two other great nations. It occupies an estimated area of 2.15 million square kilometres. Of this, 76% is arable land (1.6 million sq. kilometres) and 23% (494 thousand sq. kilometres) is wilderness. The remaining 1% is settled urban zones. The nation has a total population of 6 million. The Kodazar Hegemony is a totalitarian dictatorship, with its capital in Barthanduk, the third-largest city in the nation by population, and largest by area. The other major cities of the Hegemony include Crag Kabbar, Rud Leton, Traz Makral, Kin Bozgrun, Scar Kepeg and Gruz Bebrik.

Structure

The Hegemony is ruled by a Despot. The Despot holds supreme power in all matters military and political alike.   Governance is handled on a local level by barons, appointed directly by the Despot from those they trust.

History

The Kodazar Hegemony was founded in the year 486 T.I., when Badak the Benevolent of the Kodazar tribe of orcs united the other orcish tribes who were under the dominion of The Empire of Maz Ticca. For two years, Badak consolidated his forces, growing the numbers of his tribe to include the goblinoids and ogres who called the area home. With the huge numbers that he had amassed, Badak declared war on the Maz Ticcans. At the same time, the Okrabremore were fighting a war of secession in the western reaches of the empire. With the empire's forces spread thin, the Kodazar forces were able to sweep across the eastern side of the nation, conquering towns and cities as they went, and planting their own barons in these settlements to maintain their new order. By the time they reached the capital of Maz Ticca, the empire was a husk of its former self. Badak approached the Divine Emperor Chenux, giving him two options: to swear fealty to his new order, or be destroyed. Chenux, not wanting to destroy his ancestors' legacy, chose the former, and was allowed to remain in charge of the city, but Badak stayed in the former capital as well, while his new citadel of Barthanduk was being constructed.   The construction of the Kodazar citadel Barthanduk took three years. During this time, the Maz Ticcan empire was officially disbanded, with the last few pockets of resistance squashed. Once Barthanduk was completed, Badak departed from the town of Maz Ticca. Over the next thirty years that he reigned, Badak brokered a deal with the Thardan Alpharch, securing improved arms and equipment for the Hegemony. Badak also gathered the top minds from across the nation, and commissioned them to begin reverse-engineering the Thardan technology, in order to begin manufacturing their own weapons and equipment within the nation.   When Badak passed away, a number of prospective leaders stepped up within the Hegemony. For a few weeks, these prospects fought against each other, until eventually Zokgrok the Small arose victorious over the others. Zokgrok's reign lasted forty-seven years, during which he diverted more funding towards the enhancement of the nation's technology. The public began to grow restless; with so much funding allocated to the military industrial complex, there wasn't enough being given to the public services that had been in place under Maz Ticcan rule. The civil unrest came to a head on the night of 10 Helmon 527 T.I., when Zokgrok's throne room was attacked in a bombing. Unfortunately for the dissidents, Zokgrok was not in there at the time. His retribution was swift and merciless; the perpetrators were quickly rounded up, and executed publicly. The fallout from this night was widespread, with not only the attackers rounded up, but also Zokgrok's political opponents, and anyone else who was publicly outspoken against him. The ensuing period became known as the Barthanduk Bombing Disaster, where the laws became more strict, and internal security within the nation was heightened.   At the end of Zokgrok's reign in the year 11 A.H., he appointed one of his top military commanders to succeed him: Bakglaz the Gracious. Bakglaz's rule of 28 years saw a further tightening of restrictions, and the decrease of civil liberties. Bakglaz ensured that all baronies within the Hegemony were held by those loyal to him alone. He also was resposible for the creation of the Tuskguard, an elite force of bodyguards charged with the protection of Despots. Over the course of his reign, the Tuskguard would gain more and more power, and became the de facto police force of the Hegemony.   Bakglaz's appointed successor was Gaglatz the Honourable, Commandant of the Tuskguard. Gaglatz' rule saw the creation of the Feyfolk Laws, a series of edicts classifying all those of elven or other fey ancestry as third-class citizens within the Hegemony. It was Gaglatz who introduced the official flag of the Hegemony, the black snake on a khaki field. After 39 years, Gaglatz's rule ended.   Gaglatz was succeeded by Lodgrak the Insatiable. Lodgrak's reign lasted 26 years, during which he amended the Feyfolk Laws, allowing for the imprisonment and forced labour of fey-descended citizens.   Lodgrak was succeeded by current Despot, Brohzag the Butcher. The 3 years of Brohzag's reign so far have not had any notable developments.
