Order of the Whispervine

Structure

While centered in Kharahal the Order maintains a number of small branches across Ahuduir, though many of those have begun to close as of late. Within each of said Branches the Vyrit are organized by specialization, experience and tenure. No single Vyrit acts as a local leader, instead relying on the most senior veterans to guide the other Vyrit in their missions. These Branches all report to the primary base in Kharahal where a council of the most senior Vyrit ensure that the organization remains true to its mission statement.

All members of the Order possess a silver tattoo of a Whispervine on the back of one of their hands, coming in various shapes and sizes though all possessing the distinctive characteristics of the Whispervine. These tattoos server as a quick way for any wandering Vyrit to identify other members of the order, though it also serves the same function for those that despise the Order. As such, when in urban environments it is not uncommon for Vyrit to cover their tattoo with a glove or gauntlet, lest they be persecuted.

Public Agenda

The Order of the Whispervine exists solely to combat the rise in strange occult phenomena occurring across Ahuduir, aiming to resolve the situations with as little destruction as possible.

History

Originally an organization of Erukai founded to combat the rise of strange paranormal phenomena the Order of the Whispervine has gone through many major changes throughout their history. While they have always aimed to remain politically impartial, many of the Erukai Vyrit have struggled to keep to this, especially during the early years of the Frontier. During these early years the Order remains mostly nomadic, with its elders and trainees wandering to areas of low Occult activity in order to better train the new generations.

When the Long Peace ended and the Qivdaram invaded Ahuduir the Order, once again, attempted to remain neutral, though this did not last long. When the armies of the Qivdaram began to pour through the mountain passes of the Eastern Range and assail the Erukai settlements nearby, many in the Order could not sit idly by while their people suffered. This occurred roughly seven years after the founding of the Order and, although it was quite young at the time, the Order of the Whispervine was a few thousand strong at the time due to continuous rapid growth.

Initially the Order attempted to aid the settlement defenders against the Qivdaram, though after a series of heavy losses it became clear that such operations were not feasible for the remaining Vyrit. Instead they would aid the Heralds of Llhor in their raids, another organization seeking to sooth the spirits of the whole continent. While these raids would not end the war themselves, they would help buy time for the coalition forces to regroup, retrain, rearm and redeploy against the invaders.

After the war there was much work to do, as tens of thousands of new souls remained trapped while previously peaceful spirits began to act up. Over the next thirty years the Order would grow to ten thousand strong with a reach across all of Ahuduir, eventually absorbing the Herald’s of Llhor into itself and taking on their mandate. This time would mark the zenith of the Order’s strength and influence, as in the following decades paranormal activity began to drastically decline, leaving thousands within the Order without anything to do for long stretches of time.

Some would retire, stating that the Order no longer needed to be as large or powerful, while other groups a hundred strong would emigrate to other lands seeking to aid them with their occult issues. Either way the Order began to slip into decline after 110 LS, with many other factions taking their place in far-flung regions. In 131 LS the entire regions of Kora’adan and the Ohrtun Coast slipped from the grasp of the Order, being usurped by local religious orders, while in the east Qivdaram Occultists evicted the local Qivaras Branch in 136 LS.

By 200 LS the Order had been reduced to around eight hundred members operating within the Kuravsh Stepps and the Great Tejan, as by now the Iarion Mages Charter had begun to take on Occult Jobs in Southern Ahuduir. Following this the Order began to struggle to keep paying its property taxes and, in 238 LS, would be evicted from the Kharahal Hold by the local government due to them being unable to pay their taxes. Facing extinction the Order would turn to a small council of Vyrit, known as the Silent Triumvirate, to guide them towards survival, which they took to with great fervour. Using what funds remained the Order would purchase a number of homes in a small area in the North of Kharahal, creating a new centre for the Order, while also taking on a new, more aggressive approach to job seeking. Members of the Order would be deployed to small regions for periods of 6-8 months at a time, called Deployments, where they would be able to sniff out and eliminate Occult threats before competitors could even hear of them. Fees were also tacked on to these services, in an attempt to raise greater funds and, although this worked, it did not endear the Order to those they served.
