Myraken Confederacy (Meer-a-ken)

Structure

The Confederacy is a republic comprised of mostly autonomous member states, governed by a Council of Representatives. Each state gets a single representative on the Council, and there is no single 'leader' within the Council.

Public Agenda

The Myraken Confederacy claims to be the logical/obvious next step in the evolution of Myrakel Nations, a military and economic union to better each other as well as defend their entire culture from outside threats. Constant threat of war and invasion from multiple sources over the millennia are a source of paranoia in many Myrakel leaders and peoples, so a stronger united defense effort seems only logical.

History

While extremely young the Confederacy can trace its roots back to the First Kor'Anur-Myrakel War, where an alliance of Myrakel Samurai managed to fend off the Crild invaders, though at great cost.

Territories

In its current state, the Confederacy controls Rhananhan, Kharsharb, Koritsae Island, Shanntyn, Idari, Moku, Shiku, Kinkai, Nakobe, Naoshi & Tozuken with claims on all other Myrakel territories. These expanded claims include Mithlin, Kakayda, Yame, Yuzara and Ireius.

Military

Given the highly militarized nature of the member-states the Confederacy has access to a large pool of Samurai, Officers, Cavalry and a substantial Navy. Due to the fact that the Confederacy is currently experiencing a rapid period of growth (going from being a hypothetical state to a reality in only a few days), the exact numbers they posses will be in flux. Each member state is expected to provide a portion of their own military to the greater Confederate Military (with the aim of having the Confederate Military being larger and more powerful) for the coming war, though some will provide more than others. The Confederate Military is comprised of the following quantities of troops, split depending on state.

Kharsharb: ~30k Samurai, ~10k Ashigairu, 3 fleets of around 20 ships each

Rhananhan: ~13k Samurai, ~30 ships

Koritsae: ~1k Samurai, ~10 ships

Shanntyn: ~21k Samurai, ~15k Ashigairu, 2 Fleets ~18 Ships

Idari: ~50k Samurai, 4 Fleets ~13

Moku: ~15k Samurai, ~2k Battle Mages, ~35 Ships

Shiku: ~30k Ashigairu, ~5k Samurai, ~50 River Ships

Kinkai: ~30k Samurai

Nakobe: ~8k Samurai, ~80 Ships

Naoshi: ~32k Samurai, ~50 Ships

Tozuken: ~7k 'Perfect' Samurai

In total, the Confederate military is comprised of: 212k Samurai, 55k Ashigairu Auxiliaries, 2k Battle Mages with a Navy comprised of 353 Sea worthy naval vessels and a further 50 River Ships.

Religion

Primarily the faith of the Bleeding Sun is practiced by Myrakel, however the Confederacy has explicitly chosen to not endorse it as the state religion. Many religious minorities exist within the Confederate lands, and by endorsing one over the others would alienate a not insignificant portion of the population. Officially the Confederacy preaches religious tolerance, though the reality of this depends on the location; Kharsharb and Idari might be more open while Rhanahan is staunchly Telsinite.

Foreign Relations

Crild Dynasty: Openly hostile to the Dynasty, actively preparing to either repel an invasion or launch a preemptive strike.

Kalormyr City-States: Mostly neutral, with the size of the Confederate Military most Kalormyr will leave them alone, and the Confederacy has few interests on that side of the lower Merius River.

Commonwealth of Hacoal: Despite some border tensions and a few competing interests along their shared border, neither state wants war with the other, and maintain peaceful, though somewhat strained, relations.

Collivi Theocracy: Currently neither the Theocracy nor the Confederacy have much to do with each other, though the currently 'free' land between both is claimed by members of both nations. Relations are currently peaceful, though they could easily flare up in the coming years.

Kingdom of Kauris: The Confederacy is actively and openly hostile to the Kauris and their raiding fleets, having spent the better part of a millennia fighting them off.

League of Ferric Ventures: Due to their reliance on Frontier Steel for many industries the Confederacy maintains a positive relationship with the League.

Laws

Prohibited Littering: Myrakel take much pride in keeping their settlements clear of debris and waste, so to aid in that the Confederacy has made the act of littering a major offense, with offenders being burdened with heavy fines or even jail time.

Prohibited Public Dueling: In order to curb senseless fighting in the streets between slighted individuals, public duels are prohibited, with combat of that nature being reserved for private affairs. This is a major offense, coming with jail time for offenders.

Status of Open-carry Weapons: Long-arms are prohibited to be carried without covers within a city, though the carrying of sheathed blades for protection is considered to be legal.

Agriculture & Industry

Over the millennia the various city states of the Myrakel have had to diversify their industries to make themselves competitive not only with each other, but other powers near and far. Due to this the cities have mostly avoided stepping on each others toes in terms of industries, instead selecting a few and refining those as much as possible. This means that with each state added to the Confederacy they gain a large pool of extremely experienced crafts people in new industries, allowing for Confederate Merchants to trade in an even wider range of goods.

Rhanahan: Mostly dedicated to fishing and agriculture, leading to them mostly trading in foodstuffs as well as their strange fishing and farming tools.

Kharhsharb: Importing vast quantities of raw materials to refine them into valuable arts materials, from paintings and jewellery to performances and written works.

Shanntyn: The grooming of Bearded Whales grants Shanntyn access to a unique resource in the hydrophobic hairs of the Whales, which they refine and export.

Idari: Due to the large quantities of Kass'obake the city has access to they groom them in order to gain access to their reinforced feathers. When processed these feathers can be used in strong armours, even providing protection against firearms.

Moku: Considered the 'Mage City' of the Myrakel Moku exports its magical talents, selling enchanted goods as well as safeguarding the goods along the Marius River, for a price.

Trade & Transport

Using the old Imperial Highway the cities of the Confederacy move their goods throughout the nation, which are patrolled by Confederate Military personnel. Along the coasts the cities also employ vast fleets of merchant vessels to move goods across all settlements, with the coastlines guarded by a number of fleets. Various foodstuffs are transported between cities, though specific materials of importance are the refined hairs of the Bearded Whales, the high-quality tools and weapons of Idari, the luxurious arts of Kharsharb and the magic items of Moku.

Infrastructure

Each state is responsible for the creation of and maintenance of their own settlements and the infrastructure required for each, though the Highways are directly maintained by Confederate workers and patrolled by the Confederate Military, all from Confederate taxes. Confederate military outposts, strongholds, border watch/forts, naval yards and training grounds are all operated, maintained and paid for by the Confederate Government.
