The Founding of Iontas

The entity that had created this vast universe named itself “Intevum” and its named its creation “The Multiverse”. It travelled throughout its creation, breathing wherever it travelled. This breath flowed throughout the entire Multiverse and it collected around planets. This energy was tumultuous and chaotic, and is named by scholars today “the Primordial Chaos”. Intevum found itself, despite the teeming life, lonely. Its consciousness was above everything else and most forms of life could not even perceive it. Those that perceived it were driven mad, their minds crushed with the unknowable essence of creation. Intevum eventually found a rock, a lonely rock weathered by Primordial Chaos, and found it to be a mirror of itself. Intevum embraced this rock and merged with it, forming the planet of Iontas. Perhaps this is why Iontas became such an important planet in the Multiverse: somewhere within our vast planet, the essence of creation itself lies.

Summary

The First Race

Across Iontas formed Monoliths of obsidian and from these, the first race was born. This race named itself “The Ortus”. The Ortus fell to infighting and war, battling one another. The Ortus struggled to survive on this planet, but whatever remnants of Intevum’s consciousness remained, took pity on this race. And so grew a tree. The first tree. A massive tree. An Ortus named “Cruthu '' discovered this tree and ate a fruit. Upon consuming this fruit, the breath of Intevum that flowed throughout the universe gathered around him and he became a Divine: a creature of power rivalling the Dawn Titans. Cruthu created a massive beacon to his race to guide them to the tree - a star that he named after himself. The surviving Ortus followed the beacon, led by Cruthu’s brother Feallor, and found the tree. They ate the fruit and became Divines as well. The newly formed Divines saw Cruthu as their leader and elected him to be the Chief of the Divines. Cruthu and the others with their newfound divinity began to create life across Iontas.

The Creation of Life

Two Divines, the lovers Meine and Toir, combined their power and from their hands were born the First Children: the Dragons. Their nature spread through these dragons and they took on aspects of their creators; those that inherited the nature of Meine took on a metallic sheen to their scales and those that inherited the nature of Toir took on a chromatic. Those that inherited traits from both of them gained gem-coloured scales. Taig saw the beauty of this world and tamed the Primordial Chaos to create a vast forest. From the forest, Taig took water and from it formed the Elves and the Firbolgs. It is said that Taig created the Elves to mirror Taig’s own image. Duine tamed the chaos to form metal, and from the metal he forged the Dwarves, Halflings and Gnomes. The other Divines then saw these creations and created beings in their own images too. As the races intermingled, more were born into existence. And so the first races began to spread across Iontas as the Divines tamed the Primordial Chaos around them. The dragons, the most powerful of all the races, began to see themselves as greater than the others. However, this lead to a schism between them: the metallic dragons saw the weaker races and opted to protect them from tyranny and the chaos of the world whilst the chromatic dragons saw the weaker races as inferior and should serve them as slaves. The Gem dragons were split too, many agreeing with the metallic and many agreeing with the chromatic. However, at Meine and Toir’s behest, the dragons protected mortality.

The Rise of Magic

To help the weaker races survive the chaos of Iontas, the Divines granted their children tiny fragments of their own power, gifts which they might use to shape the world around them. The Divine named Draoicht taught these races how to use this power to bend the power of the breath of Intevum to their will, which became known as “The Flow”, to temper the wrath of explosive mountains, to tame the unyielding floods and to soften the earth to make it soft and bountiful. Draoicht named this power “Magic”. The Divine, Gealach, halted a small planet on a collision course with a net of silvery light, causing the planet to enter an orbit with Iontas. She blessed this planet with her own light, giving rise to the moon that took her own name Gealach.
