The Chrimata Imperium

The Chrimata Imperium is the second of the two human dominions to exist on the continent of Rizom. The Chrimata Imperium dominates the entirety of Eastern Rizom and was formed out of the fallen empire known as the Koios Imperium.

Structure

The Chrimata Imperium is ruled by a group of five powerful archmages, known as the Circulus Potentia. The Imperium is a Magocracy, where the Circulus Potentia rules above all else. The Circulus Potentia then trickle down power to those below them, often keeping tabs on them using powerful magical artefacts or spells. Nobility in the Imperium is defined by magical prowess: the more powerful a mage you are, the higher up you become in social hierarchy. By collaborating together, the five supreme mages are the only ones within the Chrimata Imperium with authority to make laws. Laws can be adjusted in certain cases, but in order for a law to be adjusted, an Atrium must send a request to the Arch Magus of their region, who can then apply to the Circulus Potentia for approval. The Circulus Potentia has the ultimate say when it comes to laws, as their power was given by Divine Right.   Immediately below the Circulus Potentia are the Arch Magus. These are mages who wield incredible power and have been granted power over cities and regions of the Chrimata Imperium. They only answer to the Circulus Potentia. Beneath them, are the Magus. These are mages of exceptional power who have reached the near pinnacle of their potential and have been granted high ranking within the Chrimata Imperium. The Magus are all devoted to their Arch Magus and tend to rule over the towns within regions governed by an Arch Magus.   Each Magus has 12 Arch Wizards, 10 of whom each individually specialise in a school of Magic, including the schools of Graviturgy and Chronurgy. These wizards are titled after their school of magic, having Arch as a prefix (e.g: Arch Conjurer, Arch Evoker, Arch Necromancer, Arch Chronurgist etc etc). The remaining two are the Proelium Wizard and the Lore Magister. The Proelium Wizards are in charge of the Legio based in each town, and specialise in War Magic. Meanwhile, the Lore Magisters are wizards who specialise in keeping and maintaining lore, and researching. Whilst all wizards do this, Lore Magisters own libraries that exist in each town as knowledge is paramount in the Chrimata Imperium.   All Arch Wizards reside on the Atrium (the judicial court). When a trial begins, the Arch Wizards, excluding the Proelium Wizard and the Lore Magister, convene to discuss and render a verdict (a finding of fact on a question) as a jury officially submitted to them by the atrium, or to set a penalty or judgment. The Proelium Wizard acts as the Prosecution, whilst the Lore Magister sits as the Judge and decides the final verdict. Each of the Arch Wizards have a simulacrum made of them by the Magus of their particular town, so that they may carry out justice whilst still simultaneously carrying out their day-to-day tasks. If a case is of particular import, the Magus will come to reside as Judge whilst the Lore Magister joins the Jury. Trials are not always fair: if one has committed a crime against a member of the social hierarchy, the wizard in question will not be replaced and can act as a witness or client to the Proelium Wizard. Here, the organisation structure splits into two: the Legio (the military) and the Pergula (the scholars). All three branches are overseen by the Magus of each town, the Legio being overseen by the Proelium Wizard, the Pergula being overseen by the Lore Magister. The Arch Wizards exist to assist both branches and to take on their own apprentices to train in certain magic.   The Pergula are in charge of researching other countries and continents, and own the public libraries. Private research can also be funded by the Pergula, with approval from the Lore Magister.   The Legio has it's own ranks and roles within it's structure.

Demography and Population

The most common race in the Chrimata Imperium are human and half-elves. Unlike the Thunderblood Kingdom, however, the Chrimata Imperium has been more accepting of elves non-humanoid races: it values intelligence most of all. As such, the Chrimata Imperium is home to many aarakocra, dragonborngoliaths, kenku and tortles who appreciate intellect. Tieflings and Shifters are much more common in the Chrimata Imperium too, and they are more accepted in places of power, provided they wield the magical prowess to climb to that level. Within the white-sand desert to the south of the Chrimata Imperium, known as the Niveus Sands, Hobgoblins and Kobolds are more common and accepted.

Territories

The Chrimata Imperium occupies the entirety of Eastern Rizom, for after the collapse of the Koios Imperium, the remnants split off into several factions, which were then conquered by the rising power of the Circulus Potentia.

Mythology & Lore

The Circulus Potentia teaches that in the beginning, there was nothing. From the nothingness came Intevum: the first of the Gods and the first of the Primordials. Along with Intevum came the Great Old Ones. Legend states that Intevum saw the vast emptiness of the universe and found a rock. A cold rock, floating in nothingness. Intevum grew fond of this rock, seeing it as lonely as they were, and embraced it. From the embrace more rock and stone began to gather around as the planet of Iontas formed. And within the core of the planet, Intevum created a fire to keep itself warm as it watched.   From within the fiery core, Intevum began to watch the world change and turn, the chaos giving birth to the first souls: the Primordials and the Divines. Amazed with their children, Intevum wanted to guide them to learn of themselves, which in turn would help the Intevum discover their own purpose—but the children warred amongst themselves and tried to kill one another. Intevum watched as it's most promising child, Feallor, became a threat to the very nature of the universe itself as they were lost to darkness. Confused but determined, Intevum decided that a time of learning was required, and that a cycle of trial and error must be enacted for their children of chaos to better themselves. Sacrificing a majority of their own essence, Intevum created great Monoliths of their own self, obelisks of great power that enacted a cycle of rebirth for those who were bound to Intevum.   This act exhausted Intevum, and they fell into a deep slumber within the core of the world, awaiting a time where the children of their own mind would learn from life to life, through eons of struggle and self-reflection, until the knowledge had matured enough to reassemble them, awaken them, and the children could grant the answer to the question Intevum had sought from the very beginning: what are they and what was their purpose? The Circulus Potentia decreed that they learnt this from the Monoliths that they discovered in the heart of the Chrimata Imperium.

Tenets of Faith

Since Intevum themself has not appeared to others in a form, tenets of their faith is unknown. As such, the ruling council of the Chrimata Imperium, the Circulus Potentia (Circle of Power), have created a set of tenets, known as the Praecepta Absoluta (Absolute Commandments). These are:
  1. Intevum is the greatest, and first God. Worship them and allow them into your heart.
  2. Do not kill, for death without purpose is against the laws of our world.
  3. Disorder and rebellion are to be punished severely: smite evil from this world.
  4. Maintain law above all else: do not let chaos reign.
  5. Obey those above you and command those below you.
The Circulus Potentia has also stated that Intevum's motto is: "Primis. Ultimo. Primis. Ultimo. Aeternum." (First. Last. Everlasting.)

Primis. Ultimo. Aeternum.
