The Blood War is an ancient conflict that rages between the fiends of the Lower Planes. The two main sides of the war are the demons - the inhabitants of the evil plane of chaos of the Abyss - and the devils - representing the equally evil but lawful realm of the Nine Hells. Neutral evil yugoloths play both sides against one another. The Blood War began when Diabhal took it upon himself to combat the myriad horrors of Voidharrow and the Abyss so took many celestials who had been traumatised by the horrors of the war to the Astral Sea. There, he found the corpse of a Primordial, a Dawn Titan, and used his divine power to shape it into the Nine Hells of Baator, named after the Primordial who's body had been used to create such a place.
