Carmine Elderbranch has been a practitioner of cold/ice magic for many years. He was an adventurer from the time he was seventeen up until recently. His adventuring group got caught up in a bad tussle with a powerful dragon. The dragon killed almost all of Carmine's adventuring group, and took him as a prisoner. He tortured Carmine for days on end. Carmine was rescued by a group of witches that came across the cave of the dragon. They took care of it, and immodestly took to healing Carmine. While they could do many things, they waited until the end to regrow Carmine's now missing left arm. Carmine stopped them. He told them not to regrow his arm as he wanted a memory of what had happened to him. He asked to join the witches in their teachings. They tried to refuse has he was not a witch, but they realized that the dragon had stolen most of his magical powers. He could now be retrained as a witch if he so wanted. Carmine agreed, and joined The Coven of the Ice Garden.
