Iomedae's Reach

Shelter of the Goddess

Created by Cameron M. for his campaign.

The City

Iomedae's Reach is a Megalopolis founded in the Gruna SUO3 system. The city sits in a ravine on a frozen, near inhospitable ice wasteland of a planet. The perfectly straight, thousand mile long ravine the city sits in is believed to be made by a sword swing from Iomedae herself. Most of civilization in the system lives deep in the lower levels of the ravine closer to the planet's warm core but many make their homes in the cold, maze like upper levels of the crevasse where there's more freedom and space to pursue ones own interests.
The city floors are layered atop one other, each serving as the sky to the level below.

The Planet

The planet itself has a stable atmosphere but it's long distance from the sun leaves it with average temperatures below -50°. Only the heartiest of life can survive planet-side, most near natural sources of heat such as active volcano's or the planet's vast and unique geyser fields. Most of the planet is covered in heavy snow or barren tundra. The limited plant life leaves the atmosphere nearly devoid of oxygen.

Government

Originally a well visited pilgrimage site for the The Iomedae Church and her followers the nation was originally founded as a theocratic state run by the church itself. Over a few millennia though the once small settlement grew beyond just a holy site and the church relinquished it's direct control. Although no in control over the last several centuries the church still maintains a large influence over the city. Now a thriving, independent nation in a large untapped system the inhabitants find their selves in the middle of a gold rush. The endless influx of individuals, organizations, and corporations paired with the limited space in the ravine has lead to overcrowding and crippling high living cost in the core levels.
The church's Templar Order and the government's police force work together to keep the peace. The constant growth on the planet has lead to a shortage of peace keepers and led them to frequently commission or request assistance from independent mercenaries, or as they're more commonly known as adventurers.

Districts

The Core Levels

The most desirable living place in the system. A land of endless warmth, luxury, and comfort if you have the coin. The closer to the core you live the more lavish of a live you get to enjoy.

The Upper Levels

An endless maze of service tunnels, colony faculties, and independently made annexes. Many choose to live here if they prefer the smaller crowd or dislike the more puritan lifestyle of below. Others live here due to lack of choice be it poverty or running from the law. The closer to the surface you get the colder and harsher living become.

Satellites

Iomedae's Reach has many satellites in system. From small research colonies, to large production settlements. Home to many resource heavy planets, moons, and asteroids has led to immense wealth. Largely policed by the organizations that run them they loosely follow the laws of the central power.

Points of interest

Ground Zero

The most notable location is in the center of the scar. A warm, golden glowing shard of metal sticks out of the ground towering over near by buildings. A broken off piece of Iomadae's sword. The church has built a grand cathedral around the site named Sword's Refuge . One of the most notable pilgrim sites in the galaxy. The town surrounding the cathedral caters heavily towards travelers and is filled with hotels and with public services.
Iomadae
The goddess of honorable battle, humanity, justice, and valor. She personifies glory, justice, strength, valor, and is unafraid to point her sword at the greatest evils facing humanity and the Pact Worlds.
