Phaendar (Fen-dar)
For more information on all deities, see: Deities
Phaendar, born of the celestial bodies Nephinae and Cylas, roams the cosmos charting the arcane bonds between the stars. Tasked by his parents to uncover the secrets of the void in their stead, he serves as a patron to astrologers and wizards alike, guiding mortals through his star charts to harness the magic of the constellations.
Physical Description
Phaendar is a figure of ethereal beauty, comparable to the cosmos itself. His androgynous form is adorned with shimmering star-hued robes, pale skin marked with constellations, and flowing white hair. He wields a gilded sextant and a scroll of constellations, and is often depicted riding a star-bound chariot pulled by hippocampi. Elven lore claims shooting stars mark his celestial journeys.
Divine Realm
The Stellar Cartographer eschews a permanent domain, endlessly plotting the cosmos. Though he seldom rests, he is welcomed in his family’s courts, where he occasionally shares his discoveries.
Tenets of Faith
- Explore the mysteries of the cosmos and uncover the hidden truths of the universe.
- Travel far and wide, both physically and mentally.
- Be generous with your wisdom and expertise. Empower others to reach their full potential.
Worshipers
Phaendar is revered by wizards and astronomers drawn to magic and the mysteries of the cosmos. A key figure in the elven pantheon as the son of Cylas and Nephinae, he bridges the faiths of sun and moon elves, though his worship practices are a topic of debate.
The Court of Stars
The Court of Stars, the leading organization of Phaendar’s faith, oversees astrological records and supports arcane scholarship from the safety of the city-state of Praetor. Its hierarchy is based on magical expertise, with the six most powerful mages forming the Lectorum Magicae, the ruling council. Though open to all, the Court faces criticism for perceived elven favoritism due to its ties to the elven faith and predominantly elven leadership. Publicly, it claims the stars belong to all who possess the skill and intellect to study them.Paladins of Phaendar
Paladins of Phaendar explore the cosmos, protect arcane balance, and prevent the misuse of arcane magic. They guide lost souls toward arcane mastery or spiritual clarity. Without a fixed home, they often gather at the Astrarium, a silver and crystal floating citadel that drifts across the skies, appearing where constellations align to signal their next mission. Paladins swear an oath of cosmic guardianship, vowing to protect the sacred constellations and aid those seeking to understand the deeper mysteries of the cosmos:- Chart the Unknown: I will seek out and explore the uncharted realms of both the physical and metaphysical. The stars hold secrets that must be uncovered.
- Guide the Lost: Just as stars guide travelers at night, I will be a beacon of wisdom for those who seek knowledge or are lost in their path. I will help others find their purpose and unlock their potential.
- Guard the Celestial Balance: I must ensure that the powers of the cosmos are not used for selfish or destructive ends.
- Honor the Cosmos: I will revere the stars, constellations, and celestial phenomena. Phaendar’s light shines through them, and their power should be respected, not exploited.
Holy Books & Codes
The Stella Libri
The clergy of Phaendar consider all books of magic sacred, but The Stella Libri holds special significance. Maintained by the Court of Stars, it is both a holy text and the world’s most comprehensive celestial almanac. Released annually, it details constellations’ names, histories, symbols, and magical properties, along with first-tier spells and rituals. Most arcane spellcasters maintain a copy, and novice mages often begin their training with it.Relations
Cylas
Phaendar’s relationship with Cylas is strained by conflicting ideals. Cylas sees his son as a vessel for his will, expecting perfection and loyalty to the sun elves’ dominion. Yet, Phaendar yearns for the freedom and spontaneity embodied by his mother, Nephinae, creating a growing rift between them. Despite their differences, moments of mutual respect remain—Cylas takes pride in Phaendar’s potential, while Phaendar admires his father’s unwavering resolve. Their bond teeters between loyalty and rebellion, as Phaendar navigates the shadow of his parents’ endless feud.Nephinae
The bond between Phaendar and Nephinae is warm and nurturing. The Moon-Mother encourages her son’s curiosity, guiding his cosmic explorations with gentle whispers and delighting in his discoveries. Despite their mutual respect and shared love for the night sky, tension arises from the broader conflict between Cylas and Nephinae, as Phaendar’s dual allegiance occasionally clashes with his mother’s unpredictability.Yedu'a
Yedu’a is an enigma beyond even Phaendar’s comprehension, frustrating him to no end. After encountering the All-Knowing Unknown in the Great Beyond, Phaendar developed a bitter hatred for it, though neither he nor any deity can confront it. Yedu’a embodies the pursuit of nothingness and enlightenment through detachment, while Phaendar represents knowledge and growth that enrich life. Their followers see each other’s paths as flawed, yet both embody profound truths—one in the emptiness of knowledge, the other in its fullness.Table of Contents
