Norret
Serendipity's Son
For more information on all deities, see: Deities
Norret, the adopted pet of the halfling pantheon, is no ordinary beast—he is the restless pulse of adventure, the thrill of chance, and the untamed call of the unknown. Where Kaskin ignites the desire for daring adventure, Norret dances on the edge of fate, delighting in the whims of luck and the wild freedom of the open road. His presence is an enigma—a fleeting glimpse of silver fur beneath the moonlight, the glint of antlers vanishing into the shadows. Those who spy the Nightshade Guide may find fortune grinning in their favor or feel the sting of mischief as plans unravel. He holds no allegiance to order nor malice in his chaos; Norret’s will is the ever-turning wheel of fortune. Yet, when the vulnerable are threatened or the wanderer’s spirit is crushed, he may intervene—not as a noble guardian, but as a force of unpredictable defiance. For in the eyes of Norret, the world is a gamble, and sometimes, the only way to win is to leap without knowing where you’ll land.
Physical Description
Taking the form of an unusually large jackalope with sleek silver fur and curling antlers, he bounds across the Multiverse, his paws barely skimming the ground as he ventures from one horizon to the next. Legends claim that Norret’s origins trace back to the smaller of Iolcus’ two moons, Mateo the Lesser, and on clear nights, his silvered form can sometimes be seen bounding across its pale surface. Tales of his appearances are scattered across countless realms—from desert wanderers who swear they glimpsed him under a starry sky, to sailors who claim his reflection danced along the waves beneath the light of the Moons.
Divine Realm
Norret has no fixed domain, for the open road and the endless horizon are his only true home. While the other Leaths tend to hearth, trade, and diplomacy, Norret is a fleeting presence. He roams the Multiverse without tether or purpose, guided only by the whim of chance and the thrill of discovery. On rare occasions, he returns to the family estate in Réimse to rest and indulge in some treats that Moira always has waiting for him. But just as swiftly as he arrives, he is gone again, leaving only the faint rustle of grass in his wake.
Tenets of Faith
- The world is vast and brimming with wonders. Never stop exploring.
- Take chances, embrace uncertainty, and know that even the most unexpected turns can lead to opportunity.
- No creed or expectation should chain your spirit. Walk your own path, and encourage others to do the same.
Worshipers
Norret’s followers carry his spirit with them as they traverse distant lands. They are pioneers who build communities from the earth’s bounty, guardians who defend the innocent, and wanderers who listen for the whispers of fate. Rabbits’ feet, adorned as charms of luck, are sacred to his devotees—not as trophies, but as symbols of resilience and the ever-turning wheel of fortune.
Paladins of Norret
Norret has no traditional paladin orders bound by rigid oaths or solemn vows. The notion of pledging oneself to strict doctrine would be laughable to the Wandering Hare. However, those who feel the call to protect the freedom of others and ensure the safety of travelers might take up a more personal, informal mantle. These rare individuals, sometimes called Trailhoppers, follow their own code—one as unpredictable as the winding paths they tread. Unlike the gleaming champions of other gods, Trailhoppers are drifters and wanderers. They might offer aid to pilgrims, guide lost travelers through the wilderness, or stand against those who would prey on the vulnerable. Some act as defenders of forgotten roads and unmarked trails, ensuring safe passage for those who journey under the stars. Others serve as unpredictable agents of fate, tipping the scales in favor of the bold. While Norret places no expectations on his Trailhoppers, it’s said that those who stay true to their free-spirited ways often find fortune at their side—whether it’s a well-timed gust of wind that saves them from harm or a rabbit darting across their path, leading them toward the unknown.Holy Books & Codes
No holy code binds the followers of Norret, for the Wandering Hare has little care for such things. After all, eyes are meant to take in the world’s wonders, not remain buried in a book.
Contacts & Relations
Anelle
Anelle sees Norret as a living reminder of the joy found in the unpredictable nature of others. While his mischievous streak and unpredictable wanderings might exasperate her at times, she cherishes his free spirit. To Anelle, Norret’s boundless curiosity and refusal to be tethered are a reflection of the vastness of experience that the world has to offer. She admires how he embraces both the good and the bad of his journeys, believing that every encounter—be it with friend or foe—has value. His knack for stumbling into strange places and stirring up chaos amuses her, and she savors the vibrant perspectives he collects along the way. While she might occasionally try to encourage him to reflect on the consequences of his actions, she would never seek to tame him. After all, to restrain Norret would be to snuff out the very essence that makes him who he is.Kaskin
Kaskin adores Norret, seeing the jackalope as a perfect companion for his own wild escapades. The two share a bond of mischievous camaraderie, often woven into the fabric of halfling folklore through tales of their outrageous antics. While Kaskin charges headfirst into daring exploits, Norret bounds alongside—sometimes leading the way, sometimes darting off on a whim, and sometimes disappearing entirely. Kaskin admires Norret’s refusal to be tied down, respecting the delight Norret takes in the unknown. He sees Norret as a true embodiment of freedom—an untamed force that follows no map and answers to no call but his own. The fact that Norret often eludes hunters, outwits pursuers, and defies every attempt to capture him only makes Kaskin appreciate him more. After all, what’s a good adventure without a little chase? But their bond isn’t purely one of mischief. Kaskin knows that Norret watches over the lost and defenseless. It’s a trait that earns Kaskin’s deepest respect—for while they both revel in the thrill of the journey, neither turn away from those in need. In Kaskin’s eyes, Norret is not just a companion of whimsy, but a guardian of the wandering soul. And though the jackalope may vanish without warning, Kaskin never doubts that he’ll return when the time—or the trouble—is right.Moira
Moira has a soft spot for Norret, though she’d never pretend to understand his restless nature. While she believes there’s no joy quite like a well-tended home, she knows that not all hearts are content to stay in one place. To her, Norret is like a wayward child—one who constantly wanders but never truly forgets where he belongs. Every time he returns muddy-pawed, Moira welcomes him without question, brushing the leaves from his fur and setting a meal before him as if he’d never left. Though she may shake her head at his antics, Moira admires Norret’s protective spirit. She sees a guardian’s heart beneath his playful mischief, one that ensures no one faces the dangers of the wild alone. In that way, Moira believes Norret’s wanderings serve a purpose—even if he’s far from the comforts of home, he still offers a kind of shelter to those in need. Still, Moira can’t help but worry. She knows the world beyond is unpredictable, and even luck can run thin. But just as she tends to the fires that guide loved ones home, she believes that, no matter how far Norret roams, the warmth of family will always be waiting for him. And should the jackalope ever need a place to rest his weary paws, the Leath family's door will forever stand open.Nephinae
As a fellow deity of the Moons, Nephinae finds Norret to be endlessly amusing and endearing. His chaotic nature, free-spirited wandering, and rejection of rigid paths resonate with her own embrace of unpredictability and mischief. She sees him as a fitting representative of the lesser Moon, a creature who thrives in the uncertainty of the night, much like the shadows and illusions she weaves. The tales of Norret slipping past hunters and evading even the most determined pursuers delight her—a living trickster, always one step ahead. However, while Nephinae admires Norret’s cleverness and defiance of order, she finds his lack of deeper introspection frustrating. She values the complexities of emotions and the subtle games of influence that shape the world, while Norret often moves through life with carefree abandon, uninterested in the ripples he leaves behind. Still, she grants him her favor under the cover of night, watching with amusement as he bounds through the world, leaving stories of luck and misadventure in his wake. Sometimes in her own moments of whimsy, Nephinae crosses paths with Norret, sharing a silent understanding beneath the twin moons—the goddess and the hare, both elusive, both impossible to capture.Wenser
Wenser regards Norret with a mix of amusement, exasperation, and reluctant respect—like one might feel toward an unruly pet that refuses to be tamed. The old artisan has little patience for Norret’s carefree roaming and impulsive antics, seeing the jackalope’s constant wanderings as a waste of time that could be spent building something lasting. Yet even Wenser cannot deny the strange charm Norret carries. The jackalope’s endless adventures and uncanny knack for slipping away from trouble have earned him no shortage of stories that circulate through guild halls and markets. While Wenser may roll his eyes at the fantastical embellishments—a rabbit outsmarting seasoned hunters, evading monsters, or even leaping from one world to the next—he knows there’s always a sliver of truth beneath the tales. And though Wenser scoffs at Norret’s lack of discipline, he secretly respects the jackalope’s aid of the defenseless. He may not agree with Norret’s unpredictable nature, but he cannot fault the creature for protecting the lost and weary. In a begrudging sort of way, Wenser understands that even the wildest wanderer has his place. Still, the Ancient Artisan would never admit such sentiments aloud. Instead, he contents himself with the occasional grumble when Norret’s name is brought up—all while knowing full well that the mischievous hare will always find a way to outrun his disapproval.Divine Traits
