Khuujaku (Coo-jah-coo)

The Stormscale

For more information on all deities, see: Deities

Khuujaku is the storm made flesh—indifferent, unfeeling, and ever-changing. They are neither good nor evil, neither lawful nor chaotic, but an amoral force of raw survival, embodying both brutality and renewal. As the storm rolls in, it does not judge, nor does it pity; it simply is. So too is Khuujaku. Unlike the deities of warm-blooded races, Khuujaku does not concern themselves with morality, philosophy, or ambition. Survival is the only truth. All actions that ensure survival are acceptable; all else is meaningless. They do not bless the strong nor condemn the weak—they simply observe who endures.

Physical Description

Depictions of Khuujaku are rare, as lizardfolk seldom create art, but oral tradition speaks of them as a towering lizardfolk possessing the most desirable traits of both genders. Khuujaku is neither male nor female—they shift between forms as easily as the tide, embodying the warrior-father whose storms test the mettle of the tribe and the brooding mother who ensures the nests are full. They are physically and mentally formidable, yet considered to be entirely lacking in charisma by all but the lizardfolk themselves. To them, Khuujaku's silence is wisdom; to outsiders, they are distant and unknowable.   Shamans speak of Khuujaku's legendary weapon—Baothu, the Stormfang. This colossal club, carved from the fossilized spine of an ancient beast, features vertebrae embedded with jagged stones that crackle with caged lightning, flashing like a storm trapped in bone. When swung, the club is said to howl like a typhoon, the wind screaming through its hollowed marrow.

Tenets of Faith

  • Ensure the survival of yourself and the tribe. Any action taken to achieve this is valid.
  •
  • Overthinking leads to hesitation; act swiftly, like the storm.
  •
  • The propagation of the tribe is sacred. Protect and nurture the young, else the tribe weakens.

Worshipers

Lizardfolk who dwell in coastal jungles, swamps, and river deltas revere Khuujaku as a god of storms, fertility, and survival, teaching that adaptation is strength and that only those who flow with their environment will endure. Khuujaku cares only for lizardfolk, and even then, only those who acknowledge them. The struggles of other creatures—even other lizardfolk—are beneath their notice unless they threaten their faithful as a whole. They do not send omens, grant prophecies, or interfere in trivial conflicts. Only when their people face true extinction—be it by climate catastrophe or an overwhelming invasion—do they stir.   Lizardfolk do not build temples to Khuujaku; the rivers, jungles, and storms are temple enough. Worship is practical—warriors, shamans, and brood-tenders call upon Khuujaku not with prayers, but with action, honoring them through survival, the hunt, and the raising of strong young.

Paladins of Khuujaku

No paladin orders exist in Khuujaku’s name, for rigid institutions are considered a waste of effort to lizardfolk. Instead, their shamans and warriors channel their god’s power only as needed, then return to their lives. Oaths, crusades, and dogma are the ways of the soft-skinned. Survival is the only law.

Holy Books & Codes

Khuujaku possesses no holy texts or sacred scriptures, as lizardfolk culture values oral tradition over written word. Knowledge of the Stormscale's tenets and teachings is passed down through shamans, who serve as living repositories of wisdom. These shamans share stories and lessons in the form of chants, tales, and rituals, ensuring that the essence of Khuujaku’s teachings remains alive within the tribe.
