Akrasola Communes

A land of endless dunes, vast drylands, and the ever-present blaze of the suns, Akrasola sits at the political heart of the The Lavennic Communal Republics. It holds this honour due to its lack of centralised republic government, instead being simply a vast region of governed only by local communes and tribes. This fact, along with the region's long history as a crossroads and neutral no-man's land between everything from sprawling empires to trade caravans, made it ideal as the home of the nation's capital, Boralto, itself a microcosm of these same attributes.   The sand tribes emerged out of centuries of bloody conflict across the Lavanda peninsula, who took refuge in the hostile and unrelenting environment of the desert. As empires rose, the region became a neutral meeting ground between the powerful nations, and a natural crossroads of both maritime and land based trade. Despite the harsh environment, it became home to bustling, cosmopolitan centres of trade. Business from all across the continent flowed through its amalgamation of busy port cities.

History

The Continental War

The rough landscape and harsh climate of Borashta made the region particularly difficult for the Seriphanese occupation forces to pacify, and even well before the Violet Revolution, it was rife with resistance. The sands tribes, who were heavily persecuted and forcibly moved into cities, committed to a fierce guerilla warfare campaign throughout the vast desert sands.   The communes born out of the Violet Revolution in Borashta never faced the same pressures to unify as other communes did. Largely inhabited by tribal sands tribes well accustomed to decentralised warfare, its myriad communes were able to effectively organise themselves and avoid the disorganisation of other regions which had resulted in disastrous defeats. Furthermore, its spread out, tribal population and harsh climate made local communal organisation more advantageous.   This combination of the lack of centralised authority, effective communal anti-seriphanese tactics, distance from the front lines, proximity to the major founding member communal republics, as well as its history as a neutral crossroads, resulted in the Lavennic Provisional Government choosing the city of Boralto as the provisional capital, which would later be officially proclaimed as the capital after the founding of the The Lavennic Communal Republics in 475 AGL.

Post-War

Territories

The region straddles the pleasant waters of the Ardanto Bay to the south, the windswept, jagged coastline of the Volarra Gulf to the east, the needlelike, dry summits of the Akrad mountains to the north, and the vast scorched sands of the Ashevaal desert to the west. Meandering, navigable rivers grace its suns-kissed valleys lined with a myriad of towering, verdant mesas
