FTL Combat

While FTL travel consumes a great deal of power, a sufficiently advanced civilization with the sensors, weapons, and power generation will be able to acquire major advantages by engaging in combat at superluminal speeds.

Utility

A ship moving at superluminal speeds can simply avoid being tracked by a more primitive enemy, and if FTL maneuvers are possible it is much easier to avoid lightspeed weaponry. With sufficiently advanced civilizations, kinetic and torpedo munitions may actually have shorter travel times than lasers when warp drives are installed inside a railgun slug or torpedo drive. However, due to the nature of warp travel the additional "speed" of the projectile does not actually translate to increased lethality, as it does not actually have a higher velocity.
Access & Availability
Effectively fighting at FTL speeds is extremely difficult due to the technological and power requirements. Having antimatter reactors, advanced warp drives, and specialized sensors serves as a good foundation.
