Bilestone Material in Inside the Bag | World Anvil

Bilestone

Bilestone is a stonelike substance.

Properties

Material Characteristics

Untreated bilestone is a green and yellow soft stone. Once treated it becomes a soft grey.

Physical & Chemical Properties

Untreated it can be broken apart by hand, and tends to crumble under any significant pressure. Once treated it becomes harder and denser than traditional stone.

Geology & Geography

Found mostly in the Bileswamp and in small pockets The Dump.

Origin & Source

Bilestone is formed inside the Caustic Ocean as spent acid hardens and gathers on the bottom of the ocean, openings in the bottom pull it in and compact it into Bilestone. This is then pushed through slipholes that open up underneath. This is not a conscious act on the beasts part, and is just part of its natural digestion process.

History & Usage

Refinement

Bilestone must be magically treated before it is useable. A dwarf named Huldin discovered a way to treat the stone in Year 234. Prior to this the stone was seen as useless except as a thick gravel, though the color and appearance generally made it undesirable. Due to its hardness once treated, the stone is often worked into shape beforehand. The people who do this are often referred to as Bilemasons.

Manufacturing & Products

The stone is most often used in construction and reinforcement of buildings in Famine.

Distribution

Trade & Market

The stone is often considered rare, due to its limited availability and it's intensely high demand. Almost no one outside of Famine knows how to treat the stone, and the city rarely has enough excess to trade with outside merchants.
