The Beast Outside
Summary
Behind one end of the wall, there is al-Bahr Taun. On the other, there is a-Sahrat Nifa. In the former, there is The Plague. In the latter, there is the Beast. A being said to be made from fire and smoke, it is larger than anything else, and will awaken as soon as someone steps foot into its desert.
Historical Basis
The Beast was put there by the ever-delightful father of the current malik, to discourage people from trying to leave through the wall. In his time, magic was still known, but it was not accessible. And to stop people from trying to get their hands on their own magic, he set up an ifrit. It is very much real. And everybody believed it too. It is only in the time of our malik that it falls into the books of myth. Because people become more superstitious about magical beings, and the like. But still, nobody tempts fate.
Spread
Common knowledge. Used to scare kids at night. And in the day. The ifrit will get you, if only you step a toe out of line.
In Literature
People like to create fantasy stories. Maybe an ifrit wandered into a few.
In Art
Artists are macabre people, so of course they painted it. A giant swirl of sand and fanged teeth, and talons, towering over a wall of shining steel. What a sight.
