The Infernal Accords

The Infernal Accords is an umbrella title that has been given to the contracts and codicils which form the legal basis for Malfont to rule over Infaernos.  (Ed. note- Of the many versions, Version Two is currently accepted within the Most Pleasing Version of history.)  The Accords accomplish two major things: Justification for Malfont's rebellion and the establishment of the Brimstone Danse.
When Malfont declared war against Zheol and brought the Nine Desmenes under his iron hoof, he did so with the promise of order and stability that would lead to the greater glory of Infaernos.  Since it is commonly acknowledged that victory creates truth, the other Archdevils followed the ancient traditions of submission and bent to Malfont's desires.  That is why the Infernal Accords, in every version, begin with a three page summation of the history of Infaernos and place Malfont as simply the next in line to rule over all.
The next several sections are descriptions and revelations about the Brimstone Danse.  The Danse is a complicated system of submission and control, ranks and responsibilities, and rewards and punishments.  It is this part of the Accords that tends to shift and change, with no one devil exactly sure which version was agreed to.  But since all the lawyers that go to hell are ushered away to Malfont's personal lair, no one devil has been able to mount an effective legal challenge to the Accords. (Ed. note- That is why they are often referred to as the 'Eternal' accords by those who believe they got a less-than-optimal arrangement.)
