Realization
Darcy stares at Jynnar as her magic emminates out from her. He's never actually been able to watch her use her powers, usually he's too busy trying to survive to do so. This time though, hidden behind the wagon, he can finally observe. It's not what he expected at all.
As a sorceress, he knew she had latent magical abilities that don't require incantations to cast. Hells, she doesn't even really require materials, materials just make it easier for her to use her magic, something to channel it through. The physical effect of her magic though, this changes everything.
Deep copper scales encircle her eyes. How he'd never noticed before, he'll never understand. He'd noticed her shield looked like copper scales whenever she casted it but he'd though that was the staff's doing, not a result of her magic. Those scales around her eyes though, there's only one way she'd get those...
He ducks out of the way of a stray bolt of lightning. Then the death screams reach his ears. He steps out from behind the wagon, seeing her standing over the body of the creature they'd been fighting. The scales are creeping around her face, along her jaw and down her neck, disappearing under her collar. She's breathing heavily, sweat and blood running down her face, trembling. He reaches out and touch her shoulder, letting his magic flow into her with a song. She lets out a deep breath as he heals her.
She turns to me, draconic eyes blinking up at him. "Thank you."
That's why she has powers. She has dragon magic. How?
She leans against him, tired. He slips his arm around her and takes a bit of her weight. Dragonic sorceress, that's a new thing they'll have to tackle. Something they'll adress together, as a party, tomorrow.
