Arcadia's Stand
Watching the war unfold was truly terrifying. Nine of terror, hardships and trials. We were not an overly wealthy people; our army was small, and the empire knew this. Kyros used so much of our family's wealth to build and supply an army. The Empire began stealing our soldiers away from us. Everything relied on an overwhelming victory.
The army was a tenth the size of the Coruscaren's. They were really starting to make a home for themselves on our lands by the time we were really ready to try and drive them off. Their fort was well defended and had a large number of soldiers manning it. It was prepared for a true, full invasion. Unfortunately for them, it also took them several months to fortify their position before winter arrived. They're not used to cold; we are.
They thought they could hold out the winter in their fort. I knew they couldn't, I knew their plans would fail. We had found a new type of soldier.
Her name was Ophelia Airborne. She had a dragon that she road. Rumors of Riders had existed for thousands of years, faint echoes of legends. Tales had been spun on how these Riders had fought and defeated the Coruscaren Empire on multiple occasions in ages past. Silence from the south. If those stories are true, then perhaps we will get that answer shortly.
Regardless, Ophelia was young, strong and brave. We taught her to fight, and she taught a handful of our people, including Kryos, what it meant to earn a Dragon's trust. Most failed, only five learned to fly. With those great war beasts at our sides, our men attacked the fortress. The battle raged long and hard. The Empire did in fact have weapons to use against our Dragon mounts. It was difficult but, in the end, we were victorious.
The fort was utterly destroyed. Their ships were burned to the waterline. None of their men survived. Ophelia, our champion, fought their commander and walked away with his sword on her back. Kryos hailed her as the hero of our people, kept her at his side. We would not have been victorous agaisnt such a force if not for the Dragon Rider. She now stands as the first captain of our Royal Guard. She now guards me while I carry mine and Kyros' first child. This child will be our heir, our future. The future of this country we are building. The future of Illary.
Queen Avra Illar; first queen of Illary
The Conflict
Prelude
There was almost no warning for those who lived on the eastern edge of the continent of Tyira, especially the Acaridan's, who were hit the hardest. The Courscaren's had actually been preparing for this conflict for years, fully intending to take over the continent.
Battlefield
One of the major battlefields was along the shores, just south of where the city of Sun Point, later Dragon's Point, sat. Known as the battle of Sun's Point, it is where the Acaridan's drove the Coruscaren's off the continent.
Outcome
A sudden increase in strength for the Acaridans and a painful return to the homeland for the Coruscaren's.
Aftermath
The birth of the kingdom of Illary, led by Kryos Illar and his wife, Avra. The Coruscaren's haven't attempted an invasion again, but it's not forgotten nor forgiven.
Historical Significance
Legacy
The Illar family still stands as the Royal family eight thousand years later.
This conflict was extremely bloody. The Arcadian's lost a lot of lives. There are no exact records of the number, but it was well into the thousands and for such a little group of people, that is a lot. Yet, they managed to drive off the most powerful empire in the world. That is truly impressive. Guerrilla warfare, what magic they had, the bravery of the soldiers and the intelligence of Kryos Illar, that is what led them to victory.
