Scope

The motivation behind building Indanthrene

This is a world that a novel fantasy science fiction series is taking place. We have two heros. One male, one female. This world is as much theirs as it is yours.

The goal of the project

I want to put down all the images, maps, people, places, things that the stories are about in a linked collective. To help create the novel series so that it is believable and coherent.

Indanthrene's Unique Selling point

The world is one that is a combination of a standard planet with a crashed metorite that is actually a escape ship from a dead world. Here the phrase, "a day is as a 1000 years and a 1000 years is as a day", seems to be a long adhered to myth and legend. However no one seems to know what it means or who said it. There is a war, the cause of the crash.

My world is fantasy. Medieval age with great sail boats and what some call magic.

Reader Experience

The world is very beutiful and equally as dangerous. Everything is there to challenge you, leave you in awe, and if you are not careful, kill you. Allthough the world seems old there are a lot of unexplored regions. It also seems like you are being watched, all the time. As in, all, the, time. But everyone else thinks this is normal and ignors it.

Reader Tone

The world is dark with light . Think "Game of Thrones" x "StarGate".

Recurring Themes

1. Dark and threatening ancient ruins in the Forest and Mountains or wherever you go. 2. The watchful eye on the main characters. A hawk, a stranger on a road, a unseen rescuer.... 3. Re-occuring theme of things seeming fine on the surface but being corrupt beneath

Character Agency

I want the campaign to feel epic, so characters will be able to effect a great deal of change in the world, and that change might be long lasting. Because it's a dark campaign, that change won't always be good! If they fumble or make mistakes, they'll have big consequences, too!

Focus

Military: There is a war. The Kingdom has a vast organised army. The rebellion is equally as equiped and uses gurilla warfare, deception, and esponiage to accrue resources. The rebellion wants to take out the King in the capital and rule with no heirs to get in the way. The ice-lands is theirs, however they seem to occupy parts of the kingdom far from the capital. Their hatred for the King and the Kingdom is absolute.
Agriculture And Trade: An extensive trade system has been developed all through the mainland and islands. Because of geography and history there is a monoply of certain goods with different races. Giants = Lumber and metal. Dwarfs = gold and jewels. Humans = agriculture and fishing/hunting. Elfs = inventions. This is not strickly speaking but an average this is how things are done.
Race Relations: As far as the refugees are concerned there are three main races. Gaints, Elfs, Humans, Dwarves. They all have a common ancestry and work fairly well together, now. However, since the great rebellion the darker element of each of these has not been seen. Trolls, Orks, Shadows, Goblins, all seem part of some myth or legend.
Before the Refugees arrived: This world was a water world. Its inhabitants lived in peace with this beautiful and dangerous planet. With an explosive jolt, dry land was added to their world. All they are and had still remains. They remain hidden, for now.

Drama

War: Skirimishes are a constant news item. Travelling merchants bring news of all kinds. The skirmishs between the King and the Rebelion is a constant topic.
Royalty: The war is a drain on resources. The Royalty has not been seen or heard of for centuries. Lords, Dukes and Barons have kept goverance over the Kingdom in the Kings name. There is rumours of corruption and conspiracy.
Taxes: The Upperclass over each provence exact taxes on the towns and returns the produce or coin to the capital. This is all done in the name of stabilising the Kingdom and the war effort. These wagons are heavily gaurded because of the unrest and bandits that try and return the goods to the poor peasants who are at the bottom of the social ladder.
Commerce and Piracy: Piracy on the high seas and slave trading is rumoured to be rampent in the islands. Rumours of The islands splitting as their on Republic from the Kingdom.
The past awakens: Whether from the drought, the increase in the war effort or some other instigator, the ancient ruins which have slept in isolated places are becoming more active, and monsters which previously left settlements alone are starting to appear from the wilderness and encroach on civilised life.
Culture: Their has been an increase of bards and musicians travelling with Merchant trains. A new kind of music is spreading throughout the kingdom. It has an intoxicating effect on its audience and people are heard humming the tunes days after the performances.
