Born with the surname Fullerton a year after the founding of the Republic, Daphne grew up in a wealthy, conservative family who had no problem adjusting to the new world order. Though her mother was made a 9 and her father just a 7, they received dispensation to remain married, like most couples who were within two castes of one another. She grew up happy and pretty, and began modelling already as a teenager. While she had hoped to become a 10, she was happy with her lot as a 9. At 19 she married Holden Hemmingway, a wealthy man seven years her senior who was already moving up the ranks in professional politics. Daphne kept modelling, and when she and Holden began to think about children, she decided to get a surrogate for the sake of her figure. The couple hired Stacy Saville, a 3, to carry their baby, and when Daphne was 24 Magnus was born. Stacy stayed on as Magnus's nurse and family housekeeper.
Daphne retired from modelling at thirty-eight, when jobs got more scarce in spite of botox and facelifts.
