Prismatic Radiant

Legacy relic of the Machinist Clan

Preserved by the Machinist Clan since the days of Yves Olivoix, the Prismatic Radiant is a universal depository of all scientific knowledge.
The object itself is a reflective crystalline cube with reactive surfaces that function as a dynamic tactile input medium. An internal graphic projector casts images on these surfaces providing a changeable interface for system output. The cube integrates a built-in power source of unknown design that supplies enough perpetual clean energy to run the artifact indefinitely. This power source can also provide one day-unit of energy for one additional device requiring a charge.
The knowledge contained in the cube preserves the legacy of Precursorstechnology, including dangerous secrets of techlore. In order to prevent damaging leaps in scientific advancement among less advanced societies, the Radiant cube was designed to respond to the technological capabilities of its users. The data it contains cannot be simply read. The cube has an AI mechanism that communicates with the user and prompts him to demonstrate his own learning and skill before it will dispense any technical or design support. It thus functions as a supreme diagnostic testing and review instrument for engineers and mechanics engaged in design or repair calculations.
From a theoretical perspective, the knowledge of the Radiant Cube has proved invaluable in identifying the purpose and/or provenance of discovered technology.
Bequeathed by Machinist Grandmaster Serge of Moray during the destruction of Castle Luckymore, the Prismatic Radiant remains in the possession of Jimmy Nails, the last of the Machinists. Jimmy has confirmed that the Radiant is one of the three treasures given to humanity by the Visitors during the Age of Renewal. This information was obtained during an audience with the mysterious traveler Douglas Knight during Jimmy's first sojourn at Castle Timberley.
