Languages

Each player begins play knowing the Kratoan language plus their own cultures language. Characters with positive intelligence modifier may pick their modifiers worth of languages from the following list:

Human languages

Kartoan

Language of the Kratoan people. Due to their extensive trade network it is spoken everywhere as a lingua franca. Each player character starts knowing this language.   The language has its own alphabet, and the language is used as a benchmark for difficulty.

Eonian

Spoken in the land of Eos and in parts of Acmeon and Erimea.   Eonian langauge is written in logographic symbols, which can be difficult for outsiders to memorise. Outsiders tend to only learn to speak it, rather than write and read it.

Nortongue

Language spoken in Chonia and northern areas of Acmeon.   Nortongue uses the Kratoan alphabet, but adds many unique letters to the language. For outsiders its a difficult language to learn, reading being harder than speaking it.

Thessean

Language spoken exclusively in the Thessean Peninsula.   Thessean uses the Kratoan alphabet, and it is quite close to Kratoan language.

Khaloan

Language spoken exclusively in the Erimean Desert.   Due to their isolated location, Khaloan language has its own alphabet. The language is rarely spoken in the northern regions of the world.

Umbral

Language of the Nyxian people and the Plane of shadows.   Umbral uses its own syllabic cuneiform alphabet. The written form is easy to learn, but the spoken language is difficult.

Non-human languages

Elven

Language of the Elven race.   The language has its own alphabet, which has difficult but beautiful calligraphy.

Dwarven

Language of the Dwarven race.   The language has its own alphabet (derived from Terran runic form). The spoken language uses more guttural sounds, which are uncommon in other languages.

Celestial

Language of the divines and their minions. Divine spells are usually written in celestial.   The language has its own alphabet. The spoken accent differs from person to person, as there are no native speakers in the Inner Planes.

Draconic

Language of the children of Golkaros. Arcane spells are usually written in draconic.   The language has its own alphabet. Non-draconic creatures can never fully speak it at native level due to biological differences.

Sylvan

Language of the Fey (especially Gnomes) and creatures of the forest. It is written in Elven alphabet.

Druidic

Language of the druids. Only druid players can pick this at character creation. This language cannot be learned through linguistics skill.   The language has its own alphabet.

Giant

Language of Giantkind and Ogrekind.   The language uses the Celestial alphabet. The spoken language is considered to be one of the easier non-human languages.

Elemental languages

Ignan

Spoken in the Plane of fire.   The language uses the Celestial alphabet.

Terran

Spoken in the Plane of earth.   The language has its own runic alphabet.

Auran

Spoken in the Plane of air.   The language uses the Celestial alphabet.

Aquan

Spoken in the Plane of water.   The language uses the Celestial alphabet.
