Aether isn't exactly an element as the others, but rather the lack of any of those elements. It is the energy that lives between things, most noticeably the void and in those places where the veil is thin.
Both the void and the veil have been a subject of constant studies to better understand it. Also, many believe it is also a place where the soul in drawn to after death. As many scholars have determined that the presence of the Aether is thick in place were many of dead, rest, died or even gather in undead.
Aether Temples often server are places of study, like libraries or universities or places where the people come to put the dead to rest such as graveyards, and mausoleums.
