Mystical Academy

The Mystical Academy in Threi is the primary school for magical education within the empire. Run by the Arcanum, it trains potential wizards, sorcerers and bards in the ways of arcane magics. Some additional exceptions can be made for warlocks, but those are on a case to case basis and depend largely on what patrons the potential students have allied themselves with.   The school was founded not long after the establishment of the empire in 4E to provide magical education for subjects of the empire and supply magical support troops for the imperial army. Several legions within the army act as magical specialists and each of the legions has at least some magic users embedded with the regular soldiers to provide any needed support in their duties.   Most of the lessons are taught in standard class room formats with additional lab work for more hands on experience. When students are in their final year, though, they are often sent to apprentice with a former graduate of the Academy for six months to provide practical, real world experience to the students.   Subjects taught in the school vary widely and students are encouraged to try many of the various disciplines before pursuing advanced study in a particular field. Classes in transmutation, evocation, charms, enchantments, divination, illusion and abjuration are taught as well as artificing, including the creation of potions, scrolls, spell books, magical items, weapons and armor. Advanced classes in subjects such as summoning, conjuration and necromancy are taught as well, but require certain basic studies to be completed before undertaking these classes.   The ages of the students can start as young as 10 years old to well over 60 years old as measured for humans.  Of course there are students representing most of the varied races within the empire, with humans, elves and half-elves making up the majority of classes.  Students are encouraged, but not required to, lodge in the dormitories provided by the Academy.
