Vistani

The Vistani are the roaming traders of Barovia.   Accents range between Scottish, Northern Irish, Welsh, and varieties of Northern English.

Lands of Barovia

Vistani wandering the lands, not tied to a general location.

Madam Eva

Madam Eva is a powerful seer who resides amongst the Vistani people.   Defining features: Cackling laugh. Rough wizened voice. Milky-white orbs for eyes (can still see everything). Old and wrinkled. Lips cracked with age. Long yellowed nails. Looks huge under a bundle of warm heavy cloaks piled on her.   Tent Appearance: Low wooden bench on either side of doorway. Sits behind a round table covered in black velvet with a crystal ball placed in the middle which she leans over. To one side is a basic ben constructed together filled with a simple straw mattress. Simple wooden chest filled with more cloaks and blankets lies open on the other side. Torches with magical red flame light the inside of the tent.   Party interactions: C2S4 - Met with the party and made a tarot reading with which determined the fate of the party in Barovia. Had a few words for each character:   Carric Liadon - Elf-born. Your people languished when you left, and they left you in return. But you will find them again, before the end. Soveliss will hear your words. But do not lose yourself along the way, or this land may be the death of you.   Senlin - Dragonshield, come closer. You have a dark path ahead of you, but know that you will meet the one who killed your family before the end. He lives deep in the Threadspines, surrounded by his kin. But I foresee you may need him before long, if only his blood for your sword. Oh... and Dragonshield, know that you won the heart of your wife fairly – your victory was legitimate.   Madam Eva also told Senlin about the Gnolls who killed his family, The Howling Slayers   Taowhiri - You have nemeses in many places, Haunted One. Some who have found you, and others you created for yourself. But you are not alone in this land. You travel amongst family and friends. Some of which you have yet to meet, beyond your dreams, who will perhaps bring you a new family in time.   Torinn - Ahh, you, the man under the mountain, how is your old dragon friend. Do you worry if he grows lonely without you? He prepares to move further from you still, even as your forest wife draws closer. But... strange.. that I cannot see your fate... Who was your father? I feel you may have the blood of the Vistani in you! Welcome home my boy! This may be the reason you have been drawn to these lands.

Tarokka Card Reading

Madam Eva draws five cards and places them facedown in a cross. Leaning forward over the black velvet of the table, she first lifts the one to her left...

"The Four of Stars, also known as the Abjurer. This card tells of history. Knowledge of the ancient will I help you better understand your enemy... I see a fallen house guarded by a great stone dragon. Look to the highest peak."

Leaning forward, her bones creaking, she stretches for the card furthest from her...

"The Master of Coins, the Rogue. This card tells of a powerful force for good and protection, a holy symbol of great hope... I see a nest of ravens. There you will find the prize."

Madam Eva leans to her right, flipping the next card swiftly...

"The Seven of Stars, the Illusionist. This is a card of power and strength. It tells of a weapon of vengeance: a sword of sunlight... a man is not what he seems. He comes here in a carnival wagon. Therein lies what you seek."

Madam Eva falls back into her chair, her face becoming solemn. Her gnarled hand stretches to claw the card closest to her, completing the circle...

"The Queen of Swords, the Mists. This card sheds light on one who will help you greatly in the battle against darkness... a Vistana wanders this land alone, searching for her mentor. She does not stay in one place for long. Seek her out at Saint Markovia's abbey, near the mists."

Her movements slow now, Madam Eva reaches out for the final card, lying directly in the centre of the cross...

"The Queen of Coins, the Tempter. Your enemy is a creature of darkness, whose powers are beyond mortality. This card will lead you to him! I see a secret place - a vault of temptation hidden behind a woman of great beauty. The evil waits atop his tower of treasure."

Madam Eva leans back in her chair, milky eyes glinting within the dark folds of her many cloaks, and cracked lips pull back to reveal grotesquely white and perfect teeth, at odds with the decrepit face in which they sit.

"Now, you have what you require. Go!"

Radu Radovich

Radu Radovich is a trader with a caravan full of cheap wares. He is charismatic and charming (a 'smooooth guy') but terrible at his trade, somehow always giving away that the customer is getting a bad deal for cheap tat.   Defining features: Posh, smooth accent with a hint of Scottish. Smart black goatee. Yellow cloak. Dark hair, short at sides and slicked back on top.   Party interactions: C2S2 - Met Torinn and Senlin in the Blood of the Vine tavern. Asked who they were and got some basic information about them. Asked Senlin about Taowhiri and learned that he is incredibly strong, a sailor and an islander. Told them to come find him to buy some stuff "great for adventurers" from his wagon but left town the next morning so they were not able to.   C2S5 - heard the explosion of a Glyph of Warding on the bridge near where he camped. Followed the party's light source and shadowed them in the forest until early morn. When Senlin and Carric Liadon were busy talking he snook to a tent and stole 3 wooden stakes from Taowhiri and Senlin's prayer book from his pack. Was spotted by Carric as he made his escape.   Actions: C2S2 - sent message to Strahd von Zarovich through Mirabel, the pink-legged Vistani spy from the Blood of the Vine tavern in the Village of Barovia, with the information he gained from the party. Moved out of town toward the castle but made to avoid the Tser Pool Encampment.   C2S5 - Radu escaped the party and made his way to Castle Ravenloft to deliver the items to Strahd. Strahd will use these to scry the characters more accurately. Radu was rewarded with a Nighteye Bracelet which allows him darkvision to 60 ft. Radu swapped his potion of darkvision for a potion of firebreath.   Future actions: Radu will attend the meal between Strahd and the Party and will be an honoured guest at the wedding between Strahd and Ireena.

Mariya Alastroi, the girl in the blue bandana

Mariya primarily resides at the Tser Pool Encampment. Proficient with a bow. She is a sexual person, with charismatic persistence. She has an open relationship with Vasili Volodovich.   Mariya is sympathetic to the cause of the wereravens after being saved by Muriel Vinshaw and a flock of ravens from the scarecrows of Baba Lysaga. Mariya wears a blue headband cut from the same cloth as Muriel’s to show her thanks and to remember what the wereravens did. Whilst of the Vistani, she helps inform Muriel of happenings which may adversely affect the Martikovs and tries to offer supplies when possible at drop points.   Defining features: Blue bandana. Hazel eyes. Short brown hair. Speaks lightly with heavy innuendo.   Likes and dislikes: Prefers slim men, rather than muscular. Toning optional.   Party interactions: C2S4 - Took a shine to Torinn and asked if he would like to join her and Vasili for the evening. When Torinn tried to redirect her attention to Taowhiri, she was unmoved. As the party left the Tser Pool Encampment, she shot an arrow into a tree by Tonrin's head with a note reading "The tent by the lake if you want a good time" whilst stood with Vasili.   C2S12 - Mariya was at the Vistani Camp outside Vallaki when she received a note for Carric that had made its way through another Vistani outside of Barovia. She was on the way to deliver it, hearing of their location from Katya Moldanya and Vistani watchers, when she and Vasili were ambushed by Ingarok to be used as a negotiation tool.

Vasili Volodovich - deceased

In an open relationship with Mariya. Rarely talks. Thick slavic accent.   Killed by Ingarok in C2S12.   Defining features: Red neck tie. Dashing. Tall and slim. Pointed, sculpted eyebrows. Black, slicked over hair.

Sorvia - Blue jacket

Neck-length brown hair which falls around the face. Round pudgy cheeks.   Party interactions: C2S4 - Spoke to party about a "carnival master" in Valakki who is a dangerous man and a rumoured vampire hunter. Introduced them to Madam Eva. Quoted Carric 50 gold pieces for one dose of potion to get the party through the mists. "The potion will keep the cold of the fog at bay and stop it choking your lungs". Said the party would be around the Tser Pool for a few more days before moving on.

Vistani Camp

Luvash

Luvash is one of the leaders of the Vistani camp, alongside his younger brother, Arrigal. He has no interest in the party, wishing instead only to find his missing daughter, Arabelle.   Motivations: Upon hearing of the loss of Katya, Melov and Desilav from Dietricht (states they were ambushed), Luvash is frustrated by the loss but understands that this is a dangerous land. He promises Dietricht that he will "deal with the party" if they are encountered, but cannot spare the manpower to hunt them down when half the camp is already searching for Arabelle. He also suggests Katya was foolish for being caught and should prove a lesson for any wandering unthinkingly in the dangerous woods.

Katya Moldanya

Katya is a powerful fighter and resident of the Vistani camp south of Vallaki. She was granted leadership of a search party as part of attempts to find the whereabouts of the missing girl, Arabelle.   Defining features: Half-elf, ears hidden under a pink bandana. Speaks insultingly through gritted teeth. One blue and one brown eye.   Party Interactions: C2S8 - Katya was out looking for Arabelle, the missing seven-year old child of Luvash, when her and her companions, Melov, Desilav, and Dietricht, saw the party following a path through the woods and ambushed them, hoping to gather some coin whilst the party were unprepared. Melov and Desilav were killed and Katya captured. She did not see Dietricht escape.   Motivations: Will try to convince the party to let her go. If she realises her companion escaped, will threaten the party that the Vistani will hunt them down for killing the search party for the missing child. But she will tell Luvash that she agreed a truce with the party, admitted a mistake in ambushing them, and ensure the party are not followed. Katya realises that the party are good fighters and offers to recommend them for a contract with Luvash, and also asks if, regardless of what they think of the Vistani, they can find the missing girl.

Dietricht Nakalov

Dietricht is a young crossbowman of the Vistani camp. He and his younger brother, Desilav, grew up on the travelling wagons and were famed for their comedy duo routines around the campfires. Their mother and father were killed when the boys were young.   Defining features: Notches his kills on his crossbow (37 notches so far). Leathers carefully painted to resemble brown and green leaves, which match his hazel eyes. Large nose and matted brown hair. Speaks quickly and is hard to read.   Party interactions: C2S8 - ambushed the party under the orders of Katya whilst out looking for Arabelle, daughter of Luvash. Escaped as his companion Melov and younger brother Desilav were slaughtered.   Motivations: Assumes Katya is dead. Lost his younger brother, Desilav, to the party - the old mage sent him to sleep and the paladin night slaughtered him. Dietricht will tell Luvash that the party attacked him and his companions as they were searching for Arabelle. He gives a description of the party and encourages Luvash to take revenge[Ingarok](person:bbb33149-18d3-48b6-ab4f-b84b07fb693e)
