Carric Liadon

Carric Liadon

Carric is a wood elf druid from the arctic forests of Ra-Lloud in the mountains west of the strait of Zendíron.   He has not seen another member of his clan since he left over a century ago, but listens out for any information regarding his old home. He resided for several years in Honey Crest.   Following the assassination of King Leo, Carric was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder. He was released in the night by Ashtak Thorodonn and fled town. On the road he met Senlin and Torinn who were heading south, in the direction of his old homelands. He accompanied them across Galbreth, becoming fast friends with them both. In the Month of Darkest Night they boarded a ship in Dwellen captained by Taowhiri. Attacked by genasi from Zendíron, the ship was pulled onto the rocks and the party was washed up on the shores of Kollerdörf. That night, they were pulled by the mists into the lands of Barovia.

Friends & Allies

Carric has had several friends throughout his time travelling the world but none closer than the animals he has encountered. A snow leopard he hunted with in the mountains near his homeland. A boar in the woods near Harthmore who had lost her mother. An alligator in the swamps of Icarna who just liked a gossip. A mountain goat he’d race around the cliffs near Honey Crest, and a small owl who thought he knew it all.

Soveliss, Leader of the Los-Aldeon Clan

Carric had little interactions with the man until he confronted the elders regarding the plague in their lands. A high druid of immense power turn him away again and again. Their last interaction Carric accused him of abandoning the integrity of their land. It did not go well.

Ashtak Thorodonn

C2/S0: Employed Carric to hunt meat for many years. When Carric was arrested by Lord Barnum, Asktak, with help from his barhand Robyn, released him from captivity, gifted him a dragonwing amulet, and sent him over the walls with instructions to leave over the Windbreakers and not look back.

Personal history

Carric lived as a huntsman in the snowy forests of Ra-Lloud with his Elven clan through his adolescent years. Those first hundred years were simple, and he spent his time hunting and studying the way of the arctic land. Shortly after his first centenary, a blight had slowly started to wither the local flora and drive the wildlife mad. Carric’s clan started to clear the arctic pine and slaughter the animals in hopes of stopping the disease, but it continued to destroy everything in its wake. Carric began to believe something more was going on than a simple plague and tried to convince the clan to search for answers, but they believed it was just the course of the land.   Carric went in search for answers and possible reasons for the plague, questioning the towns throughout the local lands west of the southern Mountains of Razdún, and after exhausting his search travelling over the mountains to the lands beyond.   Carric traveled back through the mountains after visiting the towns and villages on its far side. A year had passed and he had found no answers for the mysterious plague. Carric had begun to believe that the disease was centralised around Ra-Lloud. He reached the edge of Ra-Lloud forest, its tall pines nearly bare of needles. Brown husks of trees dying in the winter snow. It was quiet and, even from the forest edge, Carric knew something was wrong. He ran through what he now realised were dead trees to the Elven camp in its center. Everything was gone. The snow was undisturbed, and not a single sign of the bustling community remained. It usually took years for the elders to decide to move, and Carric had only been gone a single cycle of the seasons. For the camp to move on like this could only mean the plague had wiped them out, or they had moved on and decided to leave him behind. Carric knew Soveliss could contact him through the elements, so why had they decided to move on without telling him?   The last time he spoke to the elders, Soveliss had said someone as young as he could never understand the true nature of the land. Carric fought back, accusing Soveliss of neglecting his people and their lands: perhaps his defiance had driven them to leave without him? Carric stood with the snow whirling around him. He had been abandoned. His life, his friends, his clan, had left him. Perhaps that was what drove Carric to become a nomad, moving from town to town, city to city. Never taking root or settling again. Never trusting. Everything he had known was gone, and all that was left was a haunting white. Carric helped guide the remaining animals from the sickened Ra-Lloud to safety and went into the wilds.   Carric set out alone on what came to be many years of travel. On the way he made many beast-friends in the plains, mountains, and woodlands of his journey. While travelling with beasts he studied and learned their behaviours, and he began to embed the ancient art of the Druids within him.   After a century of travelling and working throughout the lands as a huntsman for inns and taverns, he found himself in Honey Crest and lived there for several years. He had not seen another from his clan since he left Ra-Lloud over a hundred years previously but listened out for any information regarding his old home.   Carric worked for Ashtak Thorodonn as a hunter and was provided lodgings at The Cherry Blossom Inn in Honey Crest. On King's Day T.A. 281, Carric was out hunting and witnessed the assassination of King Leo at the hand of non-identifiable attackers. Shortly after, Carric was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder, along with a number of other non-humans later. Carric was questioned heavily by Lord Barnum of the King's Guard, who had stayed behind to find answers to the murder. Ashtak was able to release Carric from his prison, gave him a dragonwing amulet and sent him over the walls, telling him to head southwest over the Windbreakers and avoid the Kingdom of Lefryn.   As Carric travelled across Lefryn, he was in the process of being shaken down by corrupt guards when Torinn and Senlin found and aided him. The three travelled over the Windbreakers in the late autumn and spent the next few months adventuring together across the plains of Galbreth. Following Senlin as he headed to the lands beyond Icarna, the trio found a singular boat travelling in the Month of Deepest Cold captained by Taowhiri of Motu. The ship passed around the peninsula of Kollerdörf until it was attacked by genasi from the island of Zendíron. The ship was drawn into the mists of Kollerdörf and smashed on the rocks. Carric and party wandered ashore, into the mists, where they were drawn into the lands of Barovia.
