The Great Purge

2905PS

The Disciples of Mirlog purged the world of what they saw as unclean.

The Disciples of Mirlog, a religious group of zealots made up of pureblood Dragonborn who worship the dragon god Mirlog, went on a crusade to exterminate all non-pureblood dragonborn across Ilara. Though not all the pureblood Dragonborn clans agreed with the Disciples of Mirlog, many clans were enticed to join, as the Disciples had access to innumerable arms and undead warriors from a wealthy, and unknown, benefactor (Benefactor is going to be Nezera Vain, leader of Von Stein). Over the next fifty years, the Disciples and their followers claimed the lives of many of their half-blood kin, until only a small remaining few banded together high atop Onyx Peak in hopes of survival.
The survivors knew they were on the verge of extinction. A Golden Dragonborn cleric known by the name of Krofax, Giver of Life, pleaded with the dragon god Mirlog to save his remaining kin from genocide. Mirlog was sympathetic towards Krofax and the plight of the non-pureblood Dragonborn, and though he did not like to interfere in the affairs of his kin, he could not watch an entire people face extermination at the hands of fanatical, murderous elitists. Mirlog requested help from Olenar, the Human God of Freedom, to save the non-pureblood Dragonborn. Olenar, feeling as though the pureblood Dragonborn were unfairly persecuting their brothers and sisters, agreed to assist Mirlog in their salvation. When the non-pureblood Dragonborn were trapped on Onyx Peak awaiting their doom, Mirlog appeared in his radiant golden form to the advancing Disciples below. The Disciples dropped to their knees, utterly in awe of their god appearing before them. The Disciples believed this to be a sign that they were on the righteous path. However, Mirlog unfurled his glittering wings before the Disciples that spanned mountains, and in one sweeping motion, cut off the peaks of the surrounding mountains, save for Onyx Peak. Mirlog’s enormous maw opened up before the Disciples and spewed flames of every shade and color that scorched the base of the mountain and slowly spread across the peninsula. Some of the Disciples embraced their god’s fury and were vaporized instantly. The remaining Disciples retreated from the peninsula. As this was happening, Olenar appeared before the trapped dragonborn on Onyx Peak and offered to save them. Olenar’s staff swiped through the air and a portal filled with the Void opened up in its wake. The remaining refugees escaped through the portal with Olenar following behind them.
Once the portal closed and the dragonborn were safe from the Disciples, Mirlog glowed with radiant light, turning the night to day across the globe, and disappeared in a crackle of yellow and purple lightning. Mirlog’s flames scorched the ground surrounding Onyx Peak and bored into the crust, creating a pool of lava at the base of the mountain. The peninsula became known as Cinder Peninsula, after the color the ground turned due to Mirlog’s flames. The remaining Disciples viewed this event as a test from their god. After fully exploring the now safe mountain for the trapped dragonborn, the Disciples came up empty-handed. However, they did find some remaining energy from Mirlog running through the entire mountainside. The Disciples took this as a sign from Mirlog that what transpired was merely a test of their faith. Onyx Peak became the new headquarters and home to the Disciples of Mirlog. They see the Cinder Peninsula as holy ground blessed by their god. The Cinder Peninsula was turned into a fortress by the Disciples and a place off-limits to outsiders. The Disciples still hunt for the escaped dragonborn and are renewed in their mission for they believe their god tested their mission and they came out, mostly, unscathed.
