The New Gods of Ilara overthrew the Old Gods in a cosmic battle.

Near the dawn of creation, Panoptos, The Supreme Being, The Creator, the One Who Stands Above All, created the universe as we know it today. Along with the ever-expanding universe, Panoptos desired order from the chaos that comes with pure creation. To accomplish this, fourteen powerful entities were birthed using primordial energy to rule over all of creation. These beings were as mighty as they were terrifying. The chaos of nothingness brought about a hunger that could not be satiated. These monstrosities, who came to be known as the Old Gods, were meant to bring order to the disorder, but other plans were forming in the shadows unbeknownst to The Creator.
For a time, these Old Gods ruled over entire galaxies, fed on the lesser beings of the worlds that Panoptos created, and then moved on to the next galaxy. However, slowly over the years, these primordial entities all gathered in one system. While the exact reason is unknown and can only be theorized, it is thought that these beings gathered in the Magni Populi system due to the high number of developing planets and the rate at which these planets were evolving. It seemed that Panoptos was one to play favorites with his creations and the Magni Populi system was one of His greatest achievements. The Old Gods knew that with new mortal beings rapidly breathing life into the system, there was an opportunity for power as their hunger only grew as the years went on. As these new mortals developed on each planet, the system was split up between the Old Gods. Each deity, or in some cases multiple, claimed a planet for themselves and a population to exploit. The hunger of the Old Gods was not something that Panoptos could have foreseen. As quickly as mortals were being created by Panoptos, the Old Gods indulged their hunger just as quickly. These gods fed in the shadows and masked their onslaught with natural disasters or strange occurrences. Their power and hubris grew the more that they fed. As they grew in might they became bolder and less cautious about their machinations. Panoptos soon learned why there had been so many disasters on His planets and why whole populations were being destroyed as soon as He created them. The Old Gods evolved to such a point that Panoptos could not destroy His creations on His own. Panoptos needed a solution if life was to make it past conception.
Panoptos and the four lesser creators, Nucleamos, Nucleaness, Magnatia, and Gravitos, decided that budding creation needed to be protected. For life to move on, New Gods were needed to overthrow the Old Gods from their seat of power. The combined power of the lesser creators and Panoptos was needed to create this pantheon of newer, more refined deities. As the Old Gods were made from the primordial energy of the universe, so too were the New Gods. Having learned from His past mistakes, these new deities were created with the express intent to be less chaotic than their predecessors. Each New God was made into something more. Life energy was plucked from different aspects of creation, and this gave the New Gods certain roles to fulfill in the universe that correlated to their respective aspects.
The New Gods were created and given a divine purpose to overthrow the tyrannical monsters ravaging the universe. The New Gods felt confident in their victory, outnumbering the Old Gods three-to-one. However, even with their advantage of numbers, the battle that ensued was greater than any could have anticipated. The cruelest and most ancient of the Old Gods, the Elder Voidspawn, was so mighty that it kept a third of the new deities occupied while the remainder of the gods waged war with each other on a cosmic level. The battle was hard-fought and waged on for half a century. In the end, through constant battles, the New Gods prevailed over the Old. Casualties of this war included three of the Old Gods along with two planets in the Magni Populi system with a third being shattered into two pieces. The remaining Old Gods fled the system, escaping with their lives while the Elder Voidspawn stayed behind, content to continue fighting. It knew that these New Gods did not possess the means to mortally wound It. However, It soon learned they did have the means to imprison and seal It away. This task took the might of the entire pantheon to accomplish. The Elder Voidspawn was chained using restraints made from the energy of a collapsing star to the core of a planet and sealed away, never to be seen again.
Once the threat of the Old Gods was extinguished, Panoptos and the lesser creators made a vow. This vow was that they were to be observers in all future matters that concerned the cosmos. They knew the universe could be left in new hands. The New Gods were tasked with the protection of the sealed Old God, to keep order in their respective realm, and to protect the creation all around them.
This event came to be known as the War of the Gods. While other battles between the New Gods have occurred in the years since these are all seen as lesser qualms. Some believe this event to be a myth or a fanciful way of explaining how things came to be while others believe this to be fact. This is why this tale has been recorded by the earliest scribes and passed down for generations. The details have been muddled throughout history but the main records remain mostly the same through the eras.
