The Spawning

The Spawning When the moon is working its new phase and the ocean is lower than normal, pulled by the celestial bodies, a spawning event occurs that people like to go and be a part of.   The Porites and Acropora coral types spawn every few years. The exact time is hard to determine, but it occurs when the water temperature is just right along with the level of salinity.   People, as well as many fishermen choose to stay out of the water during this time to give the coral maximum opportunity to spawn undisturbed. There are some people however that like to float in small boats on top of large coral beds and provide light on the surface to accelerate the spawning and ensure many new coral babies will be made....while also expanding their own families.   It is said that humanoid babies conceived during coral spawning will grow into great fishermen or excellent explorers. There might be a direct correlation, but, statistically it looks 'almost' negligible. I'm just pointing out that some areas have a higher propensity for fishermen and explorers then others, and they happen to be located near the largest coral beds, and they to practice 'making babies' during the event...just sayin'.   It is said if you gently hold lights near the surface, you can see the spawning activity become more excited and cluster near the lights. This maximizes the exposure of course, and great things happen.   Some people like to dive during these events, but they are usually conducting research and assisting with planting new reefs, or expanding current ones, by encouraging the newly fertile spawns to settle in areas that have been calculated to be most beneficial to both the coral and the local environment.   They will stay down underwater suing an air breathing apparatus and collect spawn, then corral it over specific locations and allow nature to do its thing. Others that dive are there to record the season and direction, compare it to previous data, and attempt to predict if new corals will be plentiful or not based on ocean temperatures and salinity.   The most spectacular thing to see, and its a mostly guarded event, is the underwater rivers that occur during and after the spawning. Phosphorescent light shows occur during the event. Long glowing streams of green and pink are displayed underwater not long after the spawning event has started in some areas. Some of the streams have been measured to be 3 and 4 km long. These visual displays are cherished as they aren't seen every time and they have no known pattern.
