Ryukyuri Trail Rails

There is a caravan system which only allows these creatures to be used. No equipment using fuels of any sort are allowed along these routes, they have stayed naturalized routes and the only combustion allowed are rail farts.
The key to this most reliable mode of transportation on the main island is the Ryukyuri Rail .
It must be strange for someone outside the Islands to experience seeing a giant Rail in the first place, since they do not exist outside the Islands, but then to compound that with local knowledge of what these animals are capable of and our level of comfort with the rails and how it is perfectly normal for us, yes, it must be a bit strange. Most visitors adapt, some quickly of course but others may take some time or not adjust at all and eventually just leave to go back where they are from to what they know and are comfortable with, telling stories of the  weird islands they visited that one time. Which is fine, sometimes its for the best.   So bear with me while I attempt to describe this without ever variation possible, as that is a thing.   Imagine what we would call a rickshaw but a little more complex in build, possibly more like a tuk-tuk with a little cyclo tossed in for good measure. Now put a bird in the front of it that is taller than a normal sized man, with long legs that look like they are built for running as per previous Ryukyuri Rail descriptions.    These vehicles can be long or short, enclosed or open, for just goods or passengers, or both. Some are as intricate as having shelves inside with straps and bars to hold bottles and small items, others are simple as a plank of wood between wheels.   The rails are slotted into a cab which protects them from the weather, and allows them extra support when they need. Of course the creatures are smart enough they can "lock" in and out at their will. These creatures are not servants to anyone and chose to take the routes they prefer, Old Sandy has been running the same route for over 123 years (btw, there's a special event planned for her 125th year).
At some stations, you may have to wait a day, but it one rail logs out, another will eventually be about and log in to pull the cart for you, or take you yourself further along the route. It is definitely recommended that if you have an interview far away, you DON'T take a Ryu Trail Rail if you want to be on time.
Its known the rails can hear long distances, so the switching of leads is not needed to be driven by those accompanying them. New comers are often quickly frustrated by the slower pace and the lack of open communication.
You will find a variance in the rails that switch with no obvious pattern. Scholar @@##@@ found that greater than 70% of the time, the elder rails work the hilly areas and the younger ones work the flats.   Rails, for the record, are not afraid to fly either. Even though they are ground based creatures with wings that are to short to assist with actual flight, they are comfortable on the Island Airship Transport System(IATS).
